View Full Version : 3rd Ed Do any casters synergize well with a dragonfire inspiration pumping party member?

Doing some planning for an upcoming campaign and trying to think about party synergy. I know one player will be pumping DFI and the other two are tentatively a psychic rogue and a crusader dipping totemist for their large number of attacks.

Are there any, preferably spontaneous and arcane, classes or prestige classes that fit particularly well here or can take advantage of the DFI?

Seems like there may be some with spellwarp sniper, but other than that I am unsure.

Sure: anyone with (non-undead, unless the Bard is willing to take that feat that makes bardic music work on undead) minions. DFI doesn't have any cap on the number of targets it effects, so if you have four minions that attack twice per round each that's 8d6 damage for every point of IC the Bard has.

The other avenue for synergy is gish-y builds that get multiple attacks, like a Cleric Archer with the various archery feats or a Druid that picks Wild Shape forms with many attacks (did you know that a Giant Octopus gets nine attacks in a full attack action?). While it's neither spontaneous nor arcane, this does make a Druid a great choice for the synergy you're looking for, as it can both get a bunch of DFI-eligible minions and a bunch of attacks that benefit from DFI.

Good point about minions, I suppose if he could fit that feat in, a dread necromancer would fit the bill nicely.

Girallon's Blessing, Level: Sorcerer 3, Cleric 3, Druid 3, Wizard 3
10 min per level 4 natural weapon attacks

Blood Wind Level: Cleric 1, Sorcerer 1, Wizard 1
Swift Action make you or an ally in close range with 4 Int or higher be able to use natural weapons or unarmed strikes as range weapons for 1 round. Good spell also to use a lesser rod of extend.

So these two spells in combination gives you 4 ranged weapons prior to other natural weapons, haste, and so on. A natural weapon blender of death.

Throw on Holy Warrior reserve feat if going cleric or that Arcane Strike which works with all your natural weapons for one spell sacrificed.

It's nice with whirling blade too.

I know there are the rules for weapon like spells for what feats affect them in complete arcane, but would that also include class features like inspire courage and other variants?

If your table doesn't allow it to work with weapon like spells then your typical minion master would be the best bet.
Always on minions tend to get better mileage, but they also tend to be undead and would require the bard to take another feat to affect them. Temp summons/animated are not a bad choice either, since they are throwaway you can send them into melee with little to no consequences.

If weapon like spells are allowed, then twinned split Ray spells would get the best bang for your buck if each Ray got to add the extra damage.

A ray build could be pretty awesome with this, making spellwarp sniper have some nice potential. Make sure you boost your ray spells to affect multiple targets multiple times.

Psionic manifesters with rays, Twin Power, Chain Power, and Split Psionic Ray are also quite nice, especially once energy conversion comes online. See this idea (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?177889-Brainstorm-for-Psionic-Tricks-Tactics-and-Combos-Handbook&p=19788955&viewfull=1#post19788955) to expand on that.

Also, there's an artificer archer (https://forums.giantitp.com/showsinglepost.php?p=24596535&postcount=36) "build" I came up with at one time that uses aurorum returning/spell storing arrows to apply debuffs to enemies, and aurorum returning/spell storing dye arrows to apply buffs to allies as attack actions. Explosive and piercing arrows, as well as ones that chain to enemies, would be nice to have with DFI available. Just make sure the party is immune to whatever energy type DFI is, so you don't accidentally buff them to death.
