I'm working on some rules to adapt prestige classes to OSR-style games, and am looking for suggestions for an arcane casting prestige class that might be a good template to steal from. I'd like to stick to published sources, if possible, and it shouldn't be reliant on multi-class stuff, since I'm using Old School Essentials that sticks basically to a race-as-class format. In other words, Arcane Archer wouldn't be ideal, because in OSE magic-users can't use bows.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Ever play Castles & Crusades? It has 1e-style classes with "modern" mechanics. It's my go-to game now.

And they have class+ and dual class options that might meet with your approval.

I have played C&C, but that's not what I'm looking for, unfortunately.

Hey there! I'm not super familiar with OSR-style games, but I've played a lot of Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder, so I might be able to help. One prestige class that comes to mind is the Eldritch Knight from D&D 3.5e. It's a melee-focused class that also gains some arcane casting abilities, so it might be a good starting point for adapting to your system. Another option could be the Magus from Pathfinder, which is similar to the Eldritch Knight but has a stronger focus on spells. Hope that helps!

Thanks! Ironically, the elf in B/X style games is basically an eldritch knight, albeit one who has full magic-user and fighter progression.

For Arcane Casters:

- Archmage (DMG)
- Loremaster (DMG)
- Holy Scourge (Complete Mage)
- Master Specialist (Complete Mage)

For Divine Casters:

- Hierophant (DMG)
- Thaumaturgist (DMG)
- Malconvoker (Complete Scroundel)
- Radiant Servant of Pelor (Complete Divine)

Really, most anything from Complete Arcane, Complete Mage and Complete Divine could work...
