Magetech fantasy.

You are a rabbit in a cage.

System: d20, Pathfinder/5e based. Gamma World and Choose Your Own Adventure flavored.

Custom advancement/leveling revealed through gameplay. (sorta xp + Zelda advancement through items/acquired traits/mutations). Mix of player chosen advancement, consequences of player choices, and random rolls will “improve” the character.

I’m used to mixing editions. If you are more used to 5e choose the 5e rabbit as your base character. If you are more used to 3.5 or PF, choose the PF rabbit. If the character gains an ability, the exact text will be provided.

Number of players: Solo to 4.

Posting frequency: Daily or every other day for short posts, or a long post 3 times a week. I’m a teacher, so there will be the occasional announced stoppage for grading/test making periods.

I’m in Burma, so if we happen to be awake at the same time during off hours there may be quick exchanges. Also, the power is off at random and the internet can be shaky. (I am prohibited by contract from discussing the political situation here.)

Most game related rolls will be made on the IC thread. Short questions/clarification requests should be made IC in parentheses. (Is the wounded one on the right?) I treat IC as the “tabletop” and OCC for set-up, meta, and off topic discussion. (if solo we might move to Discord, email, or a chat app, based on whatever is most convenient for us.

We will start play as soon as (a) character(s) (is/are) made.

Story set-up
You are a rabbit in a cage on a shelf in a laboratory.

You recently realized this. Your skull got a bit larger recently, and you have begun to understand more things, whether you like it or not. You can’t speak, but words and meanings just pop into your mind.

Maybe it was that glowing thing he fed you. Maybe it is whatever has been added to your water to make it glow green. Maybe it was one of the things they poked you with; it stung.

The people here always wear masks and either white coats or grey robes.

They have been talking about the 4-day weekend and your final test and impending vivisection. The last one left a while ago. You need to get out of this cage and get away somehow… it is Friday at 6 pm. You have until Tuesday at 8 am to affect your escape.

No problems. The 1st post i got overwhelmed with links though so didn't finish the all. The rest i watched like the jazz/classical cartoon. Though as someone who's not a big jazz fan i didn't finish the music video ya sent about prayer (tho i do like the more upbeat jazz.)

What check again? Sorry i can't find any checks for mage hand in the spell description.

Edit to be clear I'm using dnd beyond.

There is a limit to what Mage Hand can do. For simple movements there is no check. If you are trying to pick a lock with it, then you have to make a lock picking check. If it is something that requires skill, then you have to use that skill or a dex check. It is at GM discretion if a check is needed.

The cage has a lock, so Mage Hand wasn't able to open the cage. If it had been just lifting and sliding the latch, then it would have worked .

A round lasts 6 to 10 seconds, depending on edition. 1st and second edition divided rounds into segments, but this was really only used by spell casters to determine exactly when their spells triggered, with the segments being the casting time within the round .

Since 3e a character can usually take 1 "standard" or "attack" action and a "move action", or 2 "move actions". Some special actions are "full round" actions.

Eventually, you will figure out that the sonic whistle attack is an attack action that had a 4 round recharge time.

3e uses fixed recharge times. 4 and 5e use due rolls to determine recharge, usually you roll a d6 each round until you get a 6. Some monsters recharge on a 5 or 6.

So you used your sonic whistle, and right now in game time you don't know that it recharges....

There are multiple methods/paths available to doing things in this "dungeon".

In some dungeons (short hand term for "adventure locations") there is a very linier path imagined by the designer/dungeon master. You must do a particular thing or find a particular item.

In other Dungeons there are multiple pathways. These often fall into broad categories.

Exploration: you need search to find a key or passcode. Or another path to the other side.

Finesse/skill: you need to pick the lock or disassemble it.

Item/magic: you need to use something already in your inventory or on your spell list.

Applied force: you beat the door in. Or the wall beside the door. Or cut it open.

Of course, if you want to roleplay that you are so used to being a "regular bunny" that you forget that your last meal included a steel food dish and that you used your breath weapon(s) to destroy your cage door.... that's fine too...
