Awaken Clone

Necromancy

Level: Sor/Wiz 9
Components: V, S, M, F
Casting Time: 1 hour
Range: Touch
Effect: One clone
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

This spell gives sentience to a soulless clone that was previously created with the "Clone" spell.

Upon completion of the spell, the clone becomes a separate entity, awakened and alive, but lacking any memories of the original. The awakened clone has half of the character levels of the original (round down), and maintains the same base ability scores as the original. It does not possess any ability score bonuses from character levels it does not have or bonuses from magic items or spells.

The awakened clone has its own free will and can act independently of the original. However, if the original dies, the soul of the original does not transfer to the awakened clone.

In order to cast this spell, the clone must be intact and must not have been inhabited by the soul of the original. If the original's soul has already transferred to the clone, this spell will fail.

Material Component: A diamond worth at least 1,000 gp, which is consumed in the casting.
Focus: The clone to be awakened.

Note: The nature of the awakened clone could be a contentious issue. It has the same base ability scores as the original, which implies it has the same potential for strength, intelligence, etc. But it has no life experiences, no memories, and effectively starts at half the level of the original. How it develops could depend heavily on its experiences after awakening. The DM has significant discretion in role-playing the clone and determining its alignment, personality traits, etc.
