View Full Version : Handy Druid / Sorcerer Combinations?

Just an idea I caught on another website- obviously Druid and Sorcerer don't play the nicest together since they use two different casting stats but assuming you could guarantee decent starts for both (say two 16s, two 14s, and two 12s for stats before race) what would be some combos you can produce with both classes that you couldn't do as either of them solo?

sorcerer/druid? i cannot think of anything about that...

BUT

if you refluff your druid in a tempest domain cleric... there is room for optimization

2 level cleric, sorc x

tempest domain grants you heavy armor proficiency, which you don't need, but still is good

take transmuted spell at level 5 (clr 2/src 3)

by level 7 enjoy your maximized upcasted lighting-fireball for 54 AOE dmg once per short rest

If you want to thematically feel as a druid, select appropriate spells like fog cloud (which is in your domain spells), sleet storm, polymorph (twinned!!!), wall of stone etc...

Considering that multiclassing almost always works best when there's 1 primary class and 1 dip, here's a few thoughts, coming at it from either end of the spectrum:

A) Divine Soul or Clockwork Soul Sorcerer 3/Shepherd Druid X with the Metamagic Adept feat

This route gets you 5x Sorcery Points at a time, and 4x Metamagics known. So you can do stuff like Extend your summoning and buff spells (including casting 16 hour Aid before a long rest), Twin buffs, cast Subtle spells, etc.

B) Shadow Sorcerer 3/Stars Druid X with the Elven Accuracy feat

This lets you exploit the See-Through-Darkness tactic to have constant Advantage on your attack rolls from your attack cantrips, Guiding Bolts, and Archer form BA attacks, letting you sit back in your ball of darkness and snipe enemies at range with Triple Advantage.

C) Stars Druid 2/Sorcerer X

You now have a standard Sorcerer with the added option of either a Bonus Action ranged attack (Archer Form) or near-auto-pass Concentration checks (Dragon Form), along with some basic exploration/scouting Wild Shape and useful 1st level Druid spells. Lunar Sorcerer would be especially thematically appropriate, although there isn't necessarily much mechanical synergy.

Obviously, even if you can mitigate the MADness of the build with generous stats, the downside is that you're still going to be 2-3 levels behind in spells known in your primary spellcasting class, which is going to hurt... a lot.

Wildfire Druid 6 / (Fire) Dragon Sorcerer 14

Dragon sorc gets you +14hp, fire resistance, and effectively free Mage Armor. At level 6, +Cha to fire damage. At level, flight as a BA for free.

Wildfire druid gets you free access to healing and fire spells, and the Wildfire spirit 2/SR. It'll only have 35hp, but that's enough to survive a hit or two. You still get a BA fire damage out of it, or 15' teleport for it and allies. At level 6, when you cast a fire or healing spell while the spirit is active, +1d8 damage/heal, and you can send the Fire Spirit into danger and use it as the origin point for your casting.

Total by level 20, assuming Cha 20, is +1d8+5 to your fire damage, which is effectively 1-2 levels of upcasting on Fireball.

Make it that tiefling that can get fire resistance negation for more flames.

You do have 9th level spell slots, although not 9th level spells.

What's Wildfire from?

It's a Druid subclass published in "Tasha's Cauldron of Everything".

Gnome with first level in druid and the rest sorcerer gives you healing and proficiency and advantage on all mental saves versus magic, assuming you take Resilient-CHA. Works for sorcerer builds where you’re worried about being mentally manipulated but not concentration.
