hey so im currently running a dnd campaign on earth and is heading into the 1900s era and ive had issue with finding suitable music for the sessions as i love having background music in my campaigns but im finding it hard to find fitting music for just walking around and doing normal activities as the normal dnd background music feels to old fantasy and i cant incorporate very modern genres. Ive also had issue using jazz as im aware that it was one of the most popular forms of music back then but i havent found any jazz that isnt recognizable or fitting for background music. I may just be overcomplicating things by wanting to find an exact type of music for the world there in but i still do think itd be cool to have fitting music for the time there in if anyone has any advice id greatly appreciate it :).

What about symphonic music? You can pick quieter pieces for low-key interactions like shopping and role-play, and more bombastic pieces when you have combat.

You can check Wikipedia for something fitting: 1900s compositions (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1900s_compositions), 1900s songs (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:1900s_songs)
(Somehow, they missed Songe d'Automne (https://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/automne.html) in 1908)

It can vary with, country, people age, musical preferences, and local( a suburban local, plays different music that those played in the major mansion)

Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” has a mix of strong martial music and mellower, almost wistful moments. Jupiter in particular is quite jolly, and some of the outer planets can be rather eerie.

Antonín Dvořák’s “New World Symphony” is also worth listening to, as well as Borodin’s “In the Steppes of Central Asia.” These were composed in the late 1800s and would be well-known to most people in 1900; Holst’s Planets were composed in the late 1910s and should still fit the period.
