Book of Many Things (https://marketplace.roll20.net/browse/bundle/25706/the-book-of-many-things-pre-order)

$50 for a book about A magic item
Is there such a market for product to make this plausible? Seems like putting an Apple logo on a penny & charging $5, I know some who would bite

Just my thought, but I always considered the Deck to be one of the worst gambles. Granted it can offer some significant pay outs, but overall, I think I've seen some do the math and determine it has a higher loss than benefit ratio

More Disney IMO but with way less of a competent legal team.

Well, they sure are hoping there is.

Remember, there's some new people, from other successful companies, now working at WotC/Hasbro, and they think D&D is under-monetized. They are going through the IPs and figuring out what they can expand upon to release more products.

Honestly, organizations based on the Deck of Many Things can make sense and be interesting. But I suppose there's probably several magic items that can do that in the D&D lore. So maybe a tome dedicated to more than 1 magic item could be useful.

The funny thing is, they went through the trouble of reprinting a bunch of races and monsters so they can strip them of lore because "more accessible". Now they're like "let's do a deep dive on this magic item and tell you about all the things that exist in the world revolving around it". Can't wait for the reprint which will read like "Because of the Deck's formidable power, there may or may not be villains, monsters, and organizations interested in finding it or keeping it hidden. It is up to you as the DM to decide who might be interested in the Deck of Many Things."

And don't forget that little clause at the bottom: Can only be used on Roll20; cannot be downloaded. Digital has its pros, but anyone is fooling themselves if they think it won't eventually let WotC start forcing people's hands.

It's about way more than the deck itself IIRC. There are going to be spells, feats, other items etc in there, as well as monsters and adventure hooks.

This should not have been a book, the theme is stretching it and the content seems lacking. Also frustrating that the last full on player supplement we got was 3 years ago, they clearly gave up on giving us new content after Tashas, a lot of which was rehashed anyway.

For context, the Book of Many will have:

Players

- 2 new backgrounds
- 1 feat
- 3 spells

DMs

- 30 monsters
- 50+ magic items
- 'traps locations and more'

So, another DM book for some reason, and it sounds like a mess waiting to happen.

I never got the appeal of the deck of many things. I don't have any interest in an adventure based around it. Maybe someone does.

The appeal is exactly the same as walking into a casino and betting your house and savings on 00. The excitement of knowing that it's incredibly unwise and you're most likely going to be completely wrecked; but just maybe you'll be set for life.

Madness at Gardmore Abbey is a pretty well regarded 4e adventure centred around the Deck. I think it's pretty solid, personally.

Not to say I've got any interest in the subject of this thread's book, mind you, just that an adventure based on the Deck has been done officially and it was quite good, at least as far as premade adventures go.
