There are spells in 3.5 and Pathfinder to remove the entire soul from the body, but are there any spells or rituals to split off only a small portion of the soul?

And are there any uses to be made of soul-fragments? Are there spells that could be powered or enhanced by a partial soul? Are there any items that could store a fragment of soul, and are there any mechanics regarding the aftereffects? Are there any provisions in the rules for living with a partial soul?

Are there any provisions in the rules for living with a partial soul?Magic of Incarnum has a number of effects that manipulate one's soul and the unborn (or post-living) souls of others. All the soulmelds, and a number of spells (and powers) and classes and feats do such.

Also, anything that summons extraplanar outsiders and elementals technically do so, since you aren't pulling the entire creature in, just a partial sliver thereof, and such creatures' bodies and souls are one and the same.
