View Full Version : Another webcomic? Perhaps...

For a few years now, I've had stories floating around in my head. Some I've dreamed of turning into novels, others I've always thought of as comic strip or graphic novel material. Three of the latter are what I like to call my "Fantasy Epics." One is based on D'n'D, one is inspired by Final Fantasy,a nd the third is really just a parody of Fantasy itself combined with some good old fashioned absurdist humor. I recently decided to take a few of my character concept sketches for the D'n'D story and render them in Inkscape. This is the result.

http://img171.imageshack.us/img171/879/pcsfy6.png

Marcus and B'narg are pair of mercenaries/thieves/con artists who find themselves swept into a grand adventure when they meet a pair of Paladin siblings on a mission. Sirius's role in the story is a secret, and is open to speculation.

It's a pretty incredible feeling to see these characters turned from crummy little sketches to something that, at least in my opinion, looks pretty good.

I would love to do a webcomic. Unfortunately, I am a busy college student who suffers from chronic laziness. So I can't decide if I want to make the commitment to a webcomic. I would like to do at least one at some point in my life, and ideally, would create comics professionally.

Anyway, my point is, I'd like to hear some feedback. Should I do a webcomic? Would it be read? How does my art look?

Any comments/criticism/complaints/commendation/cookies would be vastly appreciated.

This looks good; I'd definitely read it.

Adrian should have hairstyle 2 or 3.

I'm wanting to start a webcomic also, as a vehicle for practising art. Best of luck!

I'm fine with simple abstract characters as long as the writing is good, you can distinguish all the important characters, and you can show character emotion (it's mainly done through the eyebrows and mouth shape). Make sure your art is all of the one style though so no one part sticks out.

I too am uncertain about whether I can commit to making a webcomic as I feel you need to be able to regularly commit to updating, especially for anything story driven. Personally, I'm going to wait until I've created a dozen or so strips before I set up the website. This way I'll know if I've got the time and energy to go ahead, plus I'll have a backlog of strips to cover me right at the beginning if I need to take a day off for illness or whatever.

I don't mind which hairstyle you go with; they're all okay as they currently stand. I don't know enough about Adrian to know which would suit him best.

Thanks, both of you.

The thing with the hairstyles is I like 3 the best, but I fear it will make him look too headstrong, where he's really a laid-back character. Adrian's strong and good-looking, but not too bright. He's kind of a less-exaggerated Elan in personality. He means well, but he can't help but get on his big sister's nerves. Their conflicting alignments don't help much. As exasperated as Giselle gets with her brother, she loves him dearly, and the two of them will do anything for each other. For Adrian, that usually means following his uptight sister's orders. For Giselle, that means being a little flexible around her goofball brother.

The color is just cosmetic.

I'd call for hairstyle 2 as well. This looks promising Mechafox

I personally like hairstyle 1, and would think it would look good the colour of 2.

Looks good right now...more webcomics for the boards!

I have no idea when the first comic will be up. It's gonna be a while, don't hold your breath. I've still got to design several other characters. And fine tune the ones I already have.

Hairstyle 2 or 3 are best, I like hairstyle 2, but hairstyle 3 can link the two paladins together since they are siblings (I assume?)

Yeah, they're siblings.

And once again, dead comics and unstarted comics are on the list while mine isn't.:smallannoyed:

Though I suppose it has been awhile since I updated. I'll do another today.

That's still a lot of comics, though. Perhaps they need a subforum.

Indeed you are right. I too was surprised to see mine in there already.

I really like the style, how it is different from OotS. I like how they are longer and have no hands and all.

Thanks, I'm really trying not to be a copycat. Nothing against any of the other OotS-inspired comics on the boards, but I'd kind of like to be doing my own thing. If I ever do start a comic, I probably wouldn't host it here.

I added a new character to the first post, and updated most of the existing characters. There are three more important characters I need to do, and at least five others whose roles and designs are largely undecided. However, if I can just do one of the other main characters, I'll be ready to create a "pilot," so to speak. Keep an eye open.

He is naked. He's a gnoll without a pack. Why does he need clothes?

The girl's... chest... looks a little awkward. Not because of what's there, just the armor looks a tad unnatural. Just my 2cp.

Clearly in favour of more family-grade entertainment, Mechafox elected for a chainmail tubetop instead of the more traditional chainmail bikini.

Fawkes
2008-03-06, 06:27 PM
It wasn't really intended to be a tube top...:smalltongue:

You comment's pretty vague, Festy. I don't know what to change.

All of your characters and art looks great

Realy Realy Great

I instantly feel I know the characters and can relate to them

Exept the Gnoll, he needs work. :smallannoyed:

He seems too, er hamster like, maybe some clothes/armor/a neck would help.

Actually, the hamster look is on purpose. I don't actually want him to look too fearsome.

So is he a "comedy" villan, like those two punk/rockers from the first series of power rangers? :smalleek: :smalltongue:
