Me and Askaris have decided to team up and make, yes you guessed it, a webcomic. Set in a dark apocolyiptic future it follows the serious nature of a man with a mission... Ah who am i kidding, its about some guys and girl in a bar, getting drunk, then going to save the universe and getting drunk again.

Anyhow, thats the plan.

Character bios

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o151/pal153/scifialexthebartender1.png
Alex, The bar keep
Alex is the owner and sole staff of "The Poiing Parrot" a small bar, just to the south of several volcanoes. He isn’t a fan of all the war going about, its not good for business after all, and thus has a holo field around his bar, making it impossible to die in it. Of course, it is prone to malfunctions. He has quite a easy going personality, and is not one to say no to a "Pint on the house" despite "the house" being himself. Alex also has had more than his fair share of blows to the head, and believes he actually does have a poiing parrot.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o151/pal153/scifiaskaris.png
Askaris: The Compulsory Space Elf
Askaris is a mercenary who, through the use of ancient knowledge records (Previously known as the star wars films), has decided that all mercenaries should look for work in a bar. Of course, little did he realize, that bars have alcohol and soon he forgot why he was there to begin with. He is fairly intelligent, if somewhat idiotic at times. He tends to drink a lot but keeps trying to lay it off. He is generally quite serious and has a biting sense of humor. He carries a Tred IP energy Pistol, which fires green lasers, green for purely cosmetic reasons.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o151/pal153/scifionasumawhitearmourvariant1.png
Onasuma: Psi-paladin-cheif-of-police-mega-armoured-semi-human
Onasuma has been on the right side of the law for way to long, to such an extent he is completely disillusioned with life, despite this, he still has one of the best paid jobs in the universe. As the police chief of sector 14b, he has 4 score men he can call on anytime, but as long as he's drunk his deputy does all the work. Only one man remains with him, Eboric, (see below). He wears Psion-enhanced VD14 armour, and carries a slightly modified UI3 rifle, his first gun, which has been upgraded to fire psionic bolts created by him as well as standard plasma ammo. He is self centered and possessive, yet does what he needs to when he needs to.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o151/pal153/drunkassassin2.png
Jessica Adams: The Resident Drunk
Jessica was, in her prime, a great assassin. However since then, she has fallen to a level where going to the toilet is a great trial. Drunk nearly all the time, she is referred to by Alex as his retirement fund. Her favorite poison is the bloody Mary, which is great for her, as people aren’t able to tell if she’s getting drunk or just drinking tomato juice or blood, both being much more accepted than alcohol. She still carries her pistol from her assassin days, but due to its need for absolute precision in order to kill the victim, it is now more often used to open cans of beer.

http://i119.photobucket.com/albums/o151/pal153/scifionasuma2.png
Eboric: The Redshirt
Eboric is a relatively new member of the space police, and thus still questionlessly obeys orders given to him, with no matter of death making him believe differently. He carries the same basic gun and wears the same armour as Onasuma, yet none of his equipment is upgraded, which is the same as all recruits have for the first 6 years, ignoring the fact that the average life expectancy is 17 weeks. Eboric is generally quiet and is always around when someone needs to die. Due to some problem in the space time continuum he seems to be bound to some act he shall commit and thus always finds himself getting back up .

I thought I recognized the formula of ethanol. The art looks really, really good, but you might want to concentrate on your writing. There are a number of typos, and the text doesn't flow very well. For example, what does Askaris's sense of humour have to do with his drinking?

But hey, great art. Post something already!

This is my new favorit webcomic...simply because the female is from the Half Life 2 beta...and Askaris clashed with the combine a couple of times, not t mention the police uniforms look similar to those from Battlefield 2142 and/or Ghost Recon advanced warfighter (at least the goggles look...)

And because Askaris draws in a ****ing kickass way, that no one can ever emulate !

YES! Someone recognised the assassin design! And while the uniform wasn't based directly on those games, it may well have been something lurking in my head after playing 2142.

Also Attilargh, as I draw the comics, any script that gets run past me gets a degree of editing for grammar and clarity. :smalltongue:

So, as soul staff, is Alex undead? And what is Eboric "quite"? :smalltongue:

Well, he was a space pirate at some point, hence the eyepatch, tricorn hat, and non-existent parrot. Maybe we could do a Pirates of the Carribbean rip-off...

Or maybe not.

Also, Eboric is the current meat shield. Onasuma probably gets through a lot. :smallwink:

Askaris
2007-12-09, 04:02 PM
Thanks for the compliment. Also, if you want decent broadband, go for people like Bulldog or Bethere. They don't give you TV with it, but you get much better download and upload speeds. In my case, I have Bethere, and I get a 15Mb download speed (That's the actual speed, not the maximum). Because they don't use BT landlines, they don't have to put God-only-knows how many people onto one line, thus not causing massive lag. Only problem I have is that any steam based games I have don't like to work online, but there's a fix somewhere...

Anyway, next comic will hopefully arrive sometime next week, though no guarantees there. If I get set thirteen essays and am asked to get a hard copy of the entire internet by Friday, I would have some trouble finding time for a webcomic. :smalltongue:

Okay all, what with it being Christmas soon, we're going to do a Christmas special. However, as we don't have enough people for a decent Chirstmas party, we need some people to volunteer to guest star. If you want to guest star, give a fairly detailed description of how you would like to appear. However, there are a few things I'd like to say before any of you post:

1) No "super-epic-multi-weapon-death-on-a-cocktail-stick" characters. While having weaponry and armour is quite reasonable, making yourself into a walking tank isn't. As a guideline, don't give yourself more equipment than the main characters.

2) The character design you suggest must be Sci-fi. While medieval and steampunk characters are good, they really wouldn't fit in here.

I'm taking a maximum of about eight people for this, as any more that that goes into the realms of "too much to draw." :smalltongue:

I think I'll have a character like my avatar, but no sword (maybe a lightsaber...) or belt. The hair is kinda dark brown, and a grey shirt, and have him holding a pistol or blaster or whatever its called. Oh and add in a cyborg eye if you can do it.

Ichneumon
2007-12-14, 10:33 AM
Alright, because you asked for it:

Gender: Female
Hair: Brownish, like my avatar.
Clothes: Green soldier uniform, with long dark green rain coat.
Wearing black sun glasses.
Has a laser gun attached to her belt.

She might be reading a holographic newspaper thingy that is projected from a ring on her finger.

Is this something?

EDIT: Of course this is just an idea, you may delete anything you think it to difficult or you don't like.

banjo1985

Heh cool. Okay, I'd be happy if you could use the red haired girl in my sig picture, dressed in whatever way you think will best fit what you have in mind, as long as it's still recognisably her. If she is to have a weapon it would be a green energy sword in her right hand.

She would probably be best complaining to someone about something, or demanding a discount from somebody, proclaiming "Don't you know who I am?!" or something similar.

You obviously don't have to do this if it doesn't fit, its up to you!

A chance for a cameo in a very new but very good comic? Count me in!

I've been using a State Alchemist avatar recently, so a blue military dress unform would fit me well, if he needs a weapon then either a holstered pistol or a rifle slung over his shoulder, maybe a cybernetic arm as well. The only major requirement is green hair. (You could even just re-dress the thief from the first comic. Then I could claim 2 cameos!).

My empathy to him, I had that in the middle of the night, and again several times in the same night, easily the worst I've ever felt, give him my sympathy too

I would love to have a cameo, but it would be fairly difficult to fit a medieval knight or a paladin in your comic, no?

I'd love to have my avatar cameo in the party, I'll spoiler the specific details.

Reference: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v653/Cymru_Lad/IceGenasi2.png
Changes: Add snow goggles (not wearing them - sitting on top of her head), convert hooded cape into fur-trim trench coat, make her leathers skimpier, and add heels to her boots. Maybe a long scarf trailing down her back.
Race: Ice Genasi (or equivalent of)
Gender: Female
Clothing: White leathers with fur trim.
Weapons: Two beam-scimitars, pale blue beams.

Well, I was hoping to get it drawn on a weekly basis (generally Sunday/Monday), but sometimes (like this week) that becomes a bit difficult. Therefore, it really updates whenever the strip is finished.

Well, let's see. It has an OH group, so it must be an Alcohol. It then has 2 Carbon atoms, so it has the prefix of "Eth". With the corresponding lack of anything else but Hydrogen atoms, I presume it then to be Ethanol, or in Layman's terms: Booze

I tried to get everyone done on Sunday, then I ran out time... or was it Saturday?

Also, would you like regular boots, or sci-fi boots? The one's you're wearing in your avatar look somewhat familiar... :smalltongue:

Half the fun of your avatar is that he's a planet wearing a suit and a gown. If I had made a sci-fi version, he'd probably have lost those in favour of something a bit more shiny.

Then again, originally it was only going to be your head that cameo'd, so maybe some sci-fi-ification is in order. :smallamused:

Sorry all, but I've decided to stop drawing the comic, as you may well have guessed from the lack of updating. I could give a load of excuses at this point, but the real reason for it is simply that I can't motivate myself to get it done at any kind of reasonable rate. I'll get the outstanding banners/avatars done (I'm looking at you, Keris), but I probably won't be drawing any more strips. However, Onasuma says that he might carry it on. With any luck, he'll be able to update much better than I did.

I'd like to thank everyone who's supported the comic, despite it's unnecessarily irregular updating, and at the same time to apologise for quitting. :smallfrown:

Very nice comic, Onasuma. The artwork is fantastic. If I might make a few suggestions, once you are back to work on this...?

Using the spellcheck tool will help with the comic greatly. The humor tends to be marred by the typos and punctuation errors.

If possible, go back to using Comic Sans MS for the font, and not Ariel/Times New Roman. It just looks better.

Finally, when possible, update the front page with the current comics. Otherwise, it'll look like a dead comic, and the new updates may be missed by people who look over the first page.

That's it. I think that C2H5OH has a lot of potential, and some truly great artwork. I'll be ready for the next update!

I do use a checker and I also have Askaris proof read things. But yeah, its still not good.

Font wise, meh, I dont see that mattering. The art style is a variation on the standard oots style.

and yeah, I should update the front page some time. In fact, Ill do it now. <<< Done it
