This is the OOC thread and all that. I'll add more setting info later.

Character creation rules:
• Pathfinder 1e Gestalt
• Starting Level 1. Use Point-buy of 20. You can choose to not be Gestalt. Such characters instead use a point-buy of 25.
• For races, anything at around 15 or fewer RP should be fair.
• 2 Traits, you can take a drawback for a bonus trait.
• Background Skills are in use.
• Combat Expertise, Deadly Aim and Power Attack are granted for free once you meet the prerequisites
• Feats like Weapon Focus instead apply to a Fighter Weapon Group, or weapons in a single (Discipline) Talent in Equipment Sphere.
• Weapon Finesse, if taken, grants you the benefits of Finesse Fighting from Equipment Sphere twice. This means that you can use Dexterity on melee attack rolls with Light and Finesse weapons. Additionally, if you use Dexterity to attack and Strength to damage, you add half your BAB (minimum of 1) to damage.
• 3rd party content can be discussed. The only extra ruleset I know is Spheres of Power and Might (though I haven’t checked out the Guile rules.) If it’s not broken or silly it’s probably good. Unless it’s DSP. I have an irrational dislike towards DSP.
• The setting is high medieval. Emerging guns, for those interested.
• For background, it can be brief or expansive. But I’d like it to include a few things:
o What brings your character to join the watch?
o A person your character knows in the city. A mentor, a partner in crime, a parent…

Osteara
A small coastal city, known for the independent streak of its people that has seen them difficult to govern, and landed the place a degree of autonomy. Principally human, it features a small population of dwarves and halflings, and a scattering of other races as permanent inhabitants, and many strangers come through from time to time.

Built around a natural harbour, the city has grown wealthy by serving as a trade hub, which has invited a reputation as a hive of crime and corruption, where everyone has a price. From time to time, it has been cleaned up, but the city watch has suffered a few public scandals of late, when the former commander was accused of working in league with a band of smugglers. Many watchmen quit in response, believing that the watch was corrupt. Their faith could yet be restored.

Trades
For most part, it is trade. Movement of goods from one transport to another, and providing services and entertainment for the people making the stop. A dwarven clan of metal- and stoneworkers have set themselves up, a largely insular and tight-knit community.
Surrounding the city are arable lands with farming villages and logging camps that occasionally request assistance from the city watch. Sometimes even receiving it.

Troubles
-Smuggling is a common problem in and around the city.
-Common small crimes: Pickpocketing, burglary, robbery…
-Violence is common in the docks, but rarely spills over into the city.

Weapons in the city
The city watch usually wears light or medium armour, using halberds or truncheons.
For the general populace, an armsreach law is in effect, restricting any weapon carried to be shorter than the wielder’s arm. (Generally light weapons). Being in breach is punishable by a fine, or confiscation of the weapon in question.
For bigger trouble, the city usually relies on bribing threats, or hiring mercenaries if the city watch is not up to the task. The first response often irks the less wealthy.

Going to see if I recognize the guild sign and I assume its the same as the tattoo?

[roll0]

Are there any other ways in/out of the room that I can see from here or quickly when the door was opened?

[roll1]

How far back was the entrance to the ally/street from where we are now. And how far is the distance (depth) from the door down here to street level?

The guild sign is different from the tattoo, but Aidan indeed recognizes the sign. The tattoo is of the old Twilight Horn gang that was recognized. The basement, beside the door, seemed to have a ladder upstairs.

The entrance is about five feet below the street level, one floor. Assuming you followed to the door, that makes it very close. The alleyway joins the street some 20-30 feet away.
