So, this is my new webcomic. Enjoy, updates once a week, I hope. The story changed a lot since the style thread I opened earlier this week.

Setting
It's set in a strange universe where 6 totalitaristic states control its seemingly 2-dimentional citizens. The nations are in a perpetual war with each other and use these "wire"networks to spy on the other nations and quickly transport the information to the capital of each state.

Story: Heartbeat

The way they talk reminds me of the Transformers in that recent 3 hour movie and the things that made the monoliths from the 2001 series, but that doesn't matter. Cool comic.

Its hard to concentrate on the characters when they are all symmetrical rectangles.

I miss the line art. =o

I was influenced by both Flatland and 1984 when I first wrote this story, my story is set on an other dimension with 6 totalitaristic states controlling its seemingly 2-dimentional citizens. Wow. This comic looks quite impressive.
I mean plotwise, off course. The art is not badly done, but it's still just blocks.
But the plot? It intrigues me. Seems quite original too, and I have no idea how it will work yet (which is more than I can say for most webcomics).
I'll be watching how this develops.

Think you have a unique way to craft the plot...wonder which wire is wrong...
think the second one, since killing all the orange zone would take some effort IMO...but I could be wrong.

Lyinginbedmon
2007-12-18, 12:36 PM
Let's see, it would be more difficult to destroy the orange zone than for a mistake in intelligence to be made, so I'm going to go with Occam's razor and say that the orange zone survived.

However, I'm certainly intrigued about what happens next!

Let's answer that question with the Patrol's song

We are the patrols. We are big. We follow orders. We hunt. We find. We torture. We kill!

Eldpollard
2007-12-21, 06:47 PM
This really is quite intriguing. I shall be reading on certainly. It seems quite fast paced. The characters are rather two dimensional though. But I must say well done, I really do like it.

Yeah, it doesnt say that in comic #9 though.

Ichneumon
2007-12-21, 06:55 PM
I know, it is a short version and the fact that they are bigger isn't yet really important to the story, so I didn't include the complete song.

Lyinginbedmon
2007-12-21, 07:16 PM
The quick answer would be "Have you ever met a bouncer at a nightclub?". Whilst they may still be human, they are, more often than not, quite huge folk.

Yeah, I imagine they'll be getting some black eyes and dragged shoes soon. Well...if they had eyes...and feet...and stuff

This makes very little sense yet I am intrigued and wish to read more. Then again, I am easily amused. I mean, I've spent several hours playing roguelikes which have about the same level of visual abstract representation of characters as you do, if ASCII characters standing for a person are as abstract as rectangles standing for a person.
But seeing as other people are enjoying this, I'd assume none of this is due to a misinterpretation on my part and you should continue this.
Polysyllabic words are enjoyable. :P

Also, the other stories are mostly very different and hardly connect the first one, although it would tell a bit more, you wouldn't really miss something if you didn't read the following stories (or if I wouldn't write them). I really want to see this as a seperate story, not just a different chapter.

The implication is that most of the area has died, vanished, or otherwise become undetectable. Erego: The universe is dying.

It was kinda abrupt, but it would have been better with an explosion, not a heart attack. But thats just my Idea, the concept of the universe having a heart was a great Idea.

2001 style, have a bunch of monoliths duplicate and eat a big planet causeing nuclear fuision, planet turns into a sun and everything around it is engulfed, that woud sset of several explosions nad start a convenient chain reaction engulfing the entire universe with war! ... I mean fire, sorry I was thinking about Star Wars for a second, when there is nothing left for the fire to burn, the universe is extinquished, literally. I love death and destruction:smallcool:

xwd
2007-12-31, 09:38 PM
I think I can sum up the ending in one word: ANTICLIMAX! Just like the first week of Duel where the last fight ends with the first question. :P
So, are you going to build another "universe" based on this one, and maybe have clues of the first seep into the second? Parallel dimensions? Time travel? Flashback montages? Dream sequences? Low-resolution images of old electronics?

DarkCloud
2008-02-03, 11:12 PM
I have a question. The comic arc from 12-14 didn't really seem to wrap up- what was the ending to the subplot... If that subplot also ended in the heart attack, then it DID manage to underscore the meaninglessness of war (since the universe was going to end anyways). Was that what you were intending? If so, maybe it would have been good to add some closure to the other guys- even one or two panels with them vanishing as they're planning.

Aside from being confused at some points about the purpose of comics (such as #13's map and the other map- I guess the maps were to indicate the dying organs, but it seemed like things were moving around on the maps- why exactly was that?)

I really enjoyed this comic- it is by far the most "literary" of those on offer here at GiTP.

I am definitely looking forward to Episode II.

~DC.
