You have your task in front of you. The day has arrived-you don't precisely when the portal will be able to be opened safely... Well, as safe as can be-but you know that it is today.

You've all done your preparations. The Feast sits satisfyingly in your stomachs. And now, there's nothing to do but wait... Wait... Wait...

The mages around the circle are perhaps even more nervous than you are. But then, the leader suddenly springs into action. There's a flurry of motions, and the portal opens before you-it won't last more than a few moments, so no delaying the inevitable.

You step through the portal.


On the other side is heat-sweltering heat. You wouldn't want to stay here for that long-but one way or another, it'll be over soon. There are pillars of scorched marble and braziers of intense flame lining the way up to an altar. More stone, in the form of benches, are in front of the altar. A few fire elementals are present-naturally occurring? brought here by the Myojin? you don't know, and ultimately, you don't care.

And then, behind the altar... The Myojin Of Roaring Blades themself. They are halfway seated, already rising to face the challengers. When they reach full height, they'll easily be twelve feet tall, with blades of solid fire in each of their four hands.

"You will not leave here alive, mortals!" the booming voice calls out a challenge. "But I hope for a good challenge on this day."

Ulaam snarls in reply to the Myojin's challenge, steam hissing from the ice covering her rock-like skin. Wings of stone erupt from her shoulders, then she draws her own blade and charges at the nearest fire elemental. Enchanted steel glistens green with acid as she thrusts.

Ulaam activates Elemental Gift as a bonus action, draws her rapier, moves to the nearest fire elemental, and attacks.

Rhapsody, seeing Ulaam charging into battle, attempts to even the odds a little. She casts Synaptic Snap, catching the two fire elementals within its range, then inspires Ulaam.

"It's just a weak flame, surely your heart burns hotter than that?!"

Rhapsody casts Synaptic Snap centred on x;10, y:9.


Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on that point must make an Intelligence saving throw (DC 23). A creature with an Intelligence score of 2 or lower can’t be affected by this spell. A target takes [roll0] psychic damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.

After a failed save, a target has muddled thoughts for 1 minute. During that time, it rolls a d6 and subtracts the number rolled from all its attack rolls and ability checks, as well as its Constitution saving throws to maintain concentration. The target can make an Intelligence saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Rhapsody then inspires Ulaam, granting them a 1d12 inspiration die.


Once within the next 10 minutes, the creature can roll a d12 and add the number rolled to one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw it makes. The creature can wait until after it rolls the d20 before deciding to use the Bardic Inspiration die, but must decide before the DM says whether the roll succeeds or fails. If the roll fails, the creature can keep the Bardic Inspiration die. A creature can have only one Bardic Inspiration die at a time.

The elemental Ulaam attacked strikes back, two quick blows with its limbs of flame.

The first blow misses, while the second strikes true. But her armor of frost does its job-striking back and dousing the fires, leaving nothing but embers at her feet.

Aldridge was unamused by what the Myojin Of Roaring Blades said. With one of the elementals dealt with, he turns his attention to the other fire elemental close to them and summons a spirit of a red dragon in front of the elemental.
"Attack the elemental." Aldridge ordered in a flat tone.

Aldridge casts Summon Draconic Spirit, making a chromatic red draconic spirit appear at X 11 Y 7.

Red draconic spirit then uses multiattack against the elemental.

Ulaam is lit afire by the slain elemental's final strike, but the flames die down just as quickly, courtesy of Sesog invisibly patting them out.

"Let's not talk about hearts burning hotter," she calls back to Rhapsody. "Might turn out more literally than we like."

Sesog's turn. He flies up behind Ulaam and uses his action to douse the flames, then flies behind a pillar.

Myojin Of Roaring BladesAgain, no point making saves. Mostly because literally every single enemy here is immune to fire.
One of the elementals, further in, rushes Ulaam.
The other one, harried by the spirit, instead chooses to rush the group still in the arrival area. It does, however, leave itself open to a swipe from the draconic spirit.

The Myojin takes some damage, but as bits of metal fly from their armor, they summon a massive wall of flame. The fire arches along the room, catching all of you in its heat-even the familiar.

[roll0] fire damage on a failed DC 20 Dex save. Half on a success.
The wall starts at Sesog's position, and curves to catch everyone. It's 60' long, 20' high, and 1' thick.

Rhapsody reacts to the wall of flame by erecting a small protection spell, then stifles her complaint about being on fire and teleports a short distance to relative safety. She then calls out to Myojin "What happened when a fire broke out at a yodelling school? Everyone was asked to leave in an orderly orderly orderly fashion!"

If the magic worked, even a terrible joke like that would have him laughing.

Rhapsody uses her reaction against the wall of fire to cast Absorb Elements, reducing the damage to 15. She then takes half of the [roll0] fire damage from being on fire thanks to Absorb Elements.

With her action, Rhapsody will cast Tasha's Hideous Laughter at Myojin.


The target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw DC 23 or fall prone, becoming incapacitated and unable to stand up for the duration. A creature with an Intelligence score of 4 or less isn’t affected.

At the end of each of its turns, and each time it takes damage, the target can make another Wisdom saving throw. The target has advantage on the saving throw if it’s triggered by damage. On a success, the spell ends.

Rhapsody will then move to x:17, y:3, using the pillar as cover, with her bonus action on Blessing of the Raven Queen to get her closer.

Aldridge conjures a splash of acid between the Myojin and their closest elemental compatriot.

"Hey, hey, hey!" Rhapsody calls out to Ulaam, words of flame dancing in his sight, "No dying on us today!"

She then turns to Myojin, "With weak blows like that they should call you Myojin of the Whimpering Blades!"

Rhapsody casts Healing Word on Ulaam, at 4th level, healing her for [roll0] hit points.
