So I recently picked up the Oriental Adventures book and am in the process of adding all it's monsters to my big list I use for my campaign. I'm seeing a lot of these monsters are of the Shapechanger type, which is something I've never come across before. I've always understood Shapechanger to be a subtype. Is this something that changed between 3.0 and 3.5? I've dealt with the 3.0 Beast type by changing it to either Animal or Magical Beast when converting them to my 3.5 game but with some of these Shapechangers I'm at a loss.

Yes, Shapechanger used to be a type and got downgraded into a subtype with 3.5. All Shapechangers got new types based on what fit best: Doppelgängers became monstrous humanoids, lycanthropes became humanoids, mimics became Aberrations, araneas became Magical Beasts. Also, some creatures that weren't Shapechangers before got the subtype, like barghests.

With your Shapechangers you'll have to decide on a case by case base. But if you wait until I get home, I can look them up and offer my input.

Edit:Or, you look up the official update of OA to 3.5 in Dragon Magazine #318.

For monsters from other 3.0 books, quite a lot of them are covered in the Accessory Update Booklet. Of course, I'm not sure where you can download that these days. I think all the old WotC web content went away.
