I am not super sure if something like this exists, looking for something at least semi official (so no dandwiki). Is there a class that is focused on being a traveling merchant and peddler? I have the mental image of the man at the beginning of Aladdin, minus the obvious conartist vibes. The more Arabic feel the better for this one, at least without going full stereotypes.

I'm trying to make a bit of a merchant guild from a distant land, and this general idea is where my brain keeps defaulting to.

Dragon Magazine #321, page 84 has an article titled 'Champions of Fate: Prestige Classes of Al-Qadim'.

The most-fitting of these classes is the Barber. It's leans a little more towards craftsman than merchant, but I think it would be very suitable for your needs.

EDIT: Alliance Merchant (Kingdoms of Kalamar, page 51) is a little more 'used car salesman' than 'travelling merchant' but it would also work well.

Dragonlance has the Master in one of its supplementary books, which sounds sorta similar.

Yeah, I'd go with the "Master" class with Profession knack. It gives a bunch of bonuses to diplomacy and profession-related checks. How you'd contribute in combat is another question entirely (besides helping get more money or cheaper gear for the rest of the party) but you can do the merchant thing with this.

Dragon #330 has the "Merchant Rogues" article

Merchant Prince PrC in Power of Faerūn

Maybe, the "Fence" criminal specialist - in the "Criminal Specialists" articles (Dragon #352)?

"Kings of the Caravans" article - in the Dragon #182 - includes Llachior Blackthorn (CG Male Human 11th-level Fighter), Ondul Jarduth (LN Male Human 8th-level Cleric of Helm), Sharest Tanthalar (CG Female Human 9th-level Fighter), and Emrock Uerngul (CN Male Human 11th-level Thief)

Overall, Merchant class in the older editions (i. e. Dragon #136) was more like 3.X PrC: it was intended for retired adventurers (although "No previous class" was possible too), and consisted of just 12 levels

Pathfinder-based Final Fantasy d20 includes the Merchant (https://www.finalfantasyd20.com/classes/core-classes/thief/archetypes/merchant/) archetype
