For those who may not have heard yet.

Brandon Sanderson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brandon_Sanderson) has been chosen (http://www.tor-forge.com/NewsArticle.aspx?articleId=647) to finish off The Wheel of Time.

I don't know the man's work, but he was hand-picked (http://www.dragonmount.com/RobertJordan/?p=96) by RJ's widow/editor, Harriet.

An excellent choice. He's a good writer, as good as any we could have hoped for. I'm sure he'll do the book justice.

Or, more cynically: yes, Memory of Light will probably be disappointing, but it will be far less disappointing than it could have been. :smallamused:

I've met him, he's a cool guy.

What's even cooler is that he has posted here in the past.

Hmm, bittersweet news, very bittersweet news indeed. Thanks for posting, I hadn't heard yet.

I don't know who Brandon Sanderson is, so I can't comment on him as an author, but this is disappointing news to me. I had really hoped that Harriet would complete the novel herself - I met her at a book signing once, and she is an extraordinary woman. I have no doubt she could have finished it herself. Of course, she is still the editor, so that will help. I hope she writes the last chapter, and the last scene, herself. RJ knew what was going to happen in that scene from the very beginning.

I can pretty much guarantee that there will be many mixed feelings and uncertainty about the book. It will be very easy to blame Brandon Sanderson if A Memory Of Light is sub-par, but some of the book has already been written. How much did RJ write? Which chapters/scenes were entirely written by him, which were the drafts? We'll probably never know, and it'll kill us.

I hope this post didn't sound too depressing, because I am extremely happy that the series will be completed. I will definitely be at the bookstore the first day it comes out, and I will put my life on hold for the next few days to finish it A.S.A.P. Getting it finished is better than no ending at all. But it won't be the same.
