Hi All, I was wondering if you all had any good suggestions for digital map making tools out there for all map types (from battlefield to campaign area maps).

Hi All, I was wondering if you all had any good suggestions for digital map making tools out there.

What kind of maps are you looking to make? Because the tools for battle maps tend to not work so well for area maps and vice versa.

I'm no professional, but I use a combination of

1) Wonderdraft for area maps (down to the city scale if I don't particularly care about showing individual houses)
2) Dungeondraft (same company) for battle maps
3) https://probabletrain.itch.io/dungeon-scrawl for quick "old-school" battle maps
4) Inkscape for quick sketches that don't have to actually look good and for basic "skeletons" for maps
5) GIMP for touchups on generated raster maps.

I own Campaign Cartographer 3 and, if I really wanted to do a good city map, I'd use it for that. But it's so much of a pain to learn and use, I tend not to. It takes ~10x as long to get something useful out of that than out of Wonderdraft, even if Wonderdraft doesn't half as good a job at that scale.
