Well, this is the discussion thread for the movie cloverfield (http://imdb.com/title/tt1060277/).

Some of you (who hopefully have seen Transformers) might be saying: "Woah! It has a name now? How about you should choose BURNhollywoodBURN as a category for Playgrounders in the playground!" OK, maybe not that last part, but you still should.
Anyway, yes, it has a name, and if you've seen Beowulf (which I haven't), you would know.
Discussion ideas:
Bad Robot, you are idiots. You leave us with suspense, and you name your movie Cloverfield. That is one of the worst movie names I have ever heard. Shame on you, J.J. Abrams.
The monster. My friend told me some rumors that it was some sort of whale-type... thing. Any news, please post.

Wow, the first trailer (before Transformers) made it looks awesome, but the second trailer (I assume before Beowulf) made it look terrible.
I will, of course, withhold final judgment until I've seen it.

Also I think it's kind of stupid that the "code name" they gave it when everyone wanted to know the name ended up being the real title. Why didn't they just tell us the title? (For the record I know why they were just trying to build suspense and get people talking).

I think it'd be pretty lame for the monster to be some sort of whale-thing. It coming from the Ocean is a probably pretty good bet though considering that's the easiest way for a giant killing machine to sneak-attack NY.

Well if this image http://wayangtopia.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/09/cloverfield-monster-picture.jpg

Is right, it reminds me very much of Sin from FFX.

Thanks for posting this. I saw the teaser before Transformers, but then I forgot the title (not remembering that it didn't have one yet), so I've been unable to find anything about it until you pointed it out.

I was very intrigued by the teaser, but from the looks of the trailer (http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/cloverfield/) it's going to be a full-blown monster movie with lots of action and destruction. It's lost some of its appeal, but I think I'll still go see it.

There are a lot of rumours going on about it. According to Wikiepedia, depending on who you ask this is a Godzilla sequel, a Cthulhu story, a live-action Voltron movie, or a spinoff of Lost.

It looks like a cross between a whale and a lobster. Good tasty meat, in other words.

Unless the image is a fake and it is actually Cthulhu... :smallamused:

OMG that is hilarious. I personally cannot be near anything meant to be scary, I just have a huge fear of anything like that. However, Type in "Cloverfield" in Google Images, there's a picture that seems like some monster-type thing.
NOTE: The picture is not scary, I just said that to talk about how I'm staying far away from the trailers.

On IMDB, they state that J.J. Abrams said in Comicon that he described King Kong and Godzilla as "cute" and that he would be making a much scarier and different one. In other words, it's not going to be Godzilla.

Honestly, it doesn't look nearly as good now, but I decided back when I saw the original trailer before Transformers (July 2, first showing :smalltongue: ) that I definitely needed to see it. Regardless of how ridiculous the title is, or how bad the movie might be, that initial advertising bit was more creative than I've seen in a while. Therefore, I approve.

(Also, if it is actually Cthulhu, that still counts as amusement for me. Actually, it'd make it better than whatever it really is.)

It's definitely not Cthulu...or Voltron or Godzilla. It has been established it's a brand new monster, not related to any franchise.

Well, I will see it. I figure we will see the monster for all of 10 seconds, if that, on screeen and the rest will be people darting from cover to cover. That's just my guess though.

For those interested in digging around for info but too lazy or who haven't started looking yet...

IMDB's FAQ page (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1060277/faq) is, in my opinion, a better list of info than wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloverfield)'s more generic page.

That was the preview, though. I wouldn't put it past JJ to make the preview out of completely different material than the movie, and have us not even SEE the characters in the preview, with the movie following other people.

I think the whale monster picture thingy makes sense.

Warning: Crazy theories ahead!
My working theory for a while has been that the monster will be some mutated critter, caused by evironmental pollution, created by Slusho or it's parent corporation. So the whale fits that theory, since it would be a mutated critter....
