Shrink item calculation (tl;dr I can't brain)

Ok, so potentially stupid question.

When calculating the new size of an item subject to the spell shrink item, do you include the original size when counting the four size categories or not? Does a colossal object end up large or medium?

It ends up Medium. It shrinks by four categories.

theres some things that only modify something by 1 size category and i think they often use similar wording. so if it didnt work like that, it would leave things the same size! so yeah, in english at least, it makes most sense to be this way.
