Rod of Possession?

The Rod of Possession (BoVD) forces a nearby unwilling ghost or fiend to possess the wielder. However, nothing prevents the fiend/ghost from leaving. Moreover, nothing forces the ghost/fiend to provide any boon to the wielder. As such, my question to the community is: What useful thing/s can you do with this item? Any ideas are welcome.

There's no range limit, so you could get nearish to a possessing creature, then hit it with the rod + imprison possessor + impotent possessor for a ghostnapping (or a fiend-napping, or a magic jar napping, etc...).
