I for one welcome this new edition with open arms. My army (Beasts of Chaos) has been at the bottom of the rankings for months. I feel bad for anyone who recently bought a battletome, but I'm glad I skipped the last one. An index and rule shakeup is just the edge I need for GW to overlook something busted in the faction they don't think about. like the Cockatrice spam and undercosted dragon ogres.

Granted it may also mean my army gets folded into a general unaligned chaos soup index, but I feel like that's just doomsayers. Didn't happen with Kragnos and probably won't happen here. They'll shove us in a corner and try to pretend we don't exist.

The promo said there will be changes to how magic is done so maybe it will be like how psychic powers are done in 10e 40k now. Which would be incredibly lame, but what can you do. If they bring anything over from 10e I'd like to see the leader rules and the OC stat. Mabye the way army building works would be nice as well. Encourage list diversity while still allowing for massive swarms of ratmen.

What are some things you would like/hate to see?

EDIT: Seems my army is getting squatted. worst case scenario! I win!

what I'd love and know will never happen, is to be able to put all 120 deathrattle skelletons on the table again. Also Undercosted Dragon Ogres was hilarious times.

Suffice to say I am no longer looking forward to the new edition. I'm gonna get 1 good year of play then...I don't know. I don't have the heart to sell my beastie boys and I don't like the old world. Not gonna buy another GW product again, so screw 'em.

Honestly, GW's willingness to squat immense model lines on a whim these days is kind of brutal. Some of the stuff they're permanently eliminating is 5 years old or less (though some of it is... Not). I think at this point it's up to the community to support people whose armies are invalidated; there's no reason the Stormcast player with 4000 points of stuff that no longer exists shouldn't be able to proxy it as the best equivalents of what does still exist, and no reason you shouldn't be allowed to use your Beasts as another Chaos faction.

That's just me though, and I'm largely off the GW treadmill these days. A better company would make sure you can still play with the toys you bought from them, even if they aren't going to be selling those models anymore.

It might be worth seeing if your group is open to trying-out a 'miniature agonistic'/'bring-your-own-minis' game system. One Page Rule's Age of Fantasy would probably be the easiest place to start, although there are some other ones that could work (depending on your model count).

Not a bad policy, honestly. It usually ends-up being lighter on the wallet too :smalltongue:

According to leaks the squatting was all internal politics between the specialist division and the main division. And apparantly a lot of models were meant for Beasts of Chaos got to other armies instead. like the warcry centaur, the ogroids and even kragons.

They called 3e "The Age of Beasts", they canceled the plans, we got one model and then they killed our army. You'd think I would be depressed but I'm still just angry about it.

I'm getting flashbacks to that interview about how the very first AOS release wound up with the mustache rule...

As someone else said, One Page Rules is pretty great. Also, if you don't mind Rank and Flank style gameplay, Kings of War has a Beastman style army who have been consistently solid.

GW has certainly gotten weirder as time has gone on, and this recent decision is just... baffling to me.

Like, yes, they are still going in Old World, but why wouldn't you keep them in AoS? Who cares that they're on a square base there, its not like they're in a movement tray or that it gives this huge benefit. Its just very strange.

Yeah. Dragon Rampant and Of Armies and Hordes would could also be decent. From what I've heard, Warlords of Erehwon might work too, but that's not a system I've looked into much.

It looks alright as a substitution. Although that depends on convincing other people to play it with me when their armies all still have rules and can play their game feels kind of weak. I also enjoy my local tournament/campaign scene so that's something I will definitely miss out on.

I really don't like rank and flank play, it's just not for me.

sorry to be all doom and gloom. The new edition stuff is looking good so far but then I see darkoath with brayhorns and reading their lore that they build shrines on leylines as part of their deal and I think "That is literally my thing. That was supposed to be me."

Oh, the ones I listed aren't rank-and-flank, they're just squad/army scale, rather than skirmish scale (which is more of my wheelhouse). I was just continuing off Blackhawk's post in terms of 'other games you could use the beastmen in', not specifically rank-and-flank options.
One Page Rules is still probably the easiest starting point (plus its rules are free, which generally isn't the case for miniature agonstic games), of course.
