Hi!
I'm starting an Eberron campaign soon.
It will take place in (eberronian) winter and on the border between Eldeen Reaches and Aundair, probably near the Eldeen bay.
I want snow and other weather effects to take a large role.
The part will consist of:
A lvl1 Warforged Fighter
A lvl1 Shifter Rogue (DMPC)
and (possibly, though it would be rarity if they play) a lvl2 halfling rogue.

I can forsee the Warforged taking leadership later on. And also, possibly, being quite evil and vicious.

So...I was wondering, does anybody have any good plot hooks for a campaign like this? Preferably for lvl1-6...(after that, I might be able to think things up for myself...lol...but I've run dry of ideas after the last campaign)

PS. I only have access to DMG, PHB, ECS, MM, Magic of Incarnum, and Psionics Handbook.

Level 1 characters should focus quite a bit on NOT having to go out into the snow. I could imagine at some point the warforged may end up shutting down from cold damage and have to be reset in the spring. The Shifter may have a desire to hibernate and the normally desert/plains dwelling dino riding halfling would be completely out of its element. It could be a relatively mild winter, but to the halfling it would be a "Great Ice Age" and a huge challenge to overcome.

Adventures may include protecting your food and heat from raiders or raiding others for the same reason. Capture some winter based nesting animals for the Aundair breeding programs. Even capture hibernating animals for the same reason.

well, they are in Eldeen Reaches during Winter. So perhaps they are attacked by some Monsterous Vermin and find out that this may be a Winter forever if the Children of Winter have their way. Medium Monsterous Vermin are pretty tough.

Alteritivly you could have them have to deal with House Cannith stuff as you do have a Warforged charitor. Perhaps the Warforge finds out that the house left something important in him when he was built

as for your shifter, I say milk the Witchhunt stuff from the Church of the Silver Flame..i would...and enjoy

If the winter is unusually severe, you could have a crazy cult of fire-worshippers who are going around killing anybody who seems remotly magical on the off chance that they are causing it.

One of the sects of druids are winter/death oriented, don't remember the name though. This might be their opportunity to try and make life worse for the citizens of the Eldeen, or perhaps for Aundarian citizens in particular. You could do an entire campaign based off of that alone. Start with some scouting encounters, followed by attacks on small villages, cold based monsters, counter attacks by the PCs, later big battles with druids and their ilk.
You might also consider that, as far north as you are talking, the Demon Wastes aren't THAT far away. Who's to say there isn't some rakshasa demon behind the wintery druid sect.
Also, if you've got the cash to spare, you might consider picking up Frostburn, if winter is going to be that important.

oh I fogot my Geography for a bit. and the Cosmoligy, the Demon wastes are not far, but instead of having them responsable, have the plane on druitic magic (w/e it is0 becoming paralle with the Prime for a bit, during this time the Wastes themself start to infect the other plane, now, if this was natural there would be nothing that could be done, but the Children of Winter have conspired with the Lords of Dust. The effect, if the planes fuse it will weaken a spiritual binding in the area, releaseing a powerful Rakshasa Raja, by the name of Levitus (the frozen Lord of Hell...but make him furry) He will apper frozen in ice, but his other binding gone, spell-likes and such ready to distroy the world....YAY...campgain ark!

Monstrous pirates on the icy winter seas! Yargh! Toss them on a boat and throw some baddies from the Demon Wastes at them. If your PCs want to be evil, you can make up some power struggle between two mildly evil or self-absorbed interests such as one of the Lhazaar princes and the Ashbound druids or something. Then, the party can play antiheroes against an ancient evil antagonist that doesn't like the PCs cutting into it's sphere of influence.

PS - Oh, I see we already got to this idea.

I think you guys are focusing too much on the cold and not enough on the LEVEL ONE! The cold itself is enough to challenge a level 1 character, we don't need to add an epic level adversary.

Children of Winter are specialist in two things. bugs and Cold

it's winter...the children are in their element. bugs...look at the CR of some buggies...Tiny Montourious Centipede, I'd use two...they are CR 1/8

They start finding their way into the Cabin that the party is hideing from the cold in. and party doesn't know why. they fight them but more keep comeing...1 then 2 then 4...till they decide they need to run. they go out into the cold and so starts a Campagin ark discribed by me a cupple posts ago.

Vermin are very good at Scaleing and just throw in some Druids with the Children of Winter feats..a cupple Eldeen Rangers of Children of Winter you have all your badies...easy peasie. too easy? up the level! too hard? lower the level.

I love makeing an adventure that you can scale up or down easy for every level. and just think. As you get more powerful so are the Druids and the Winter and the Buggies.

Sweet, thanks!

I especially like the pirate idea, and your last idea Tialait. I think I'll use them among the others that particularly piqued my interest.
