The Spell Binder

Spell Binders are the descendants of sorcerer bloodlines that have been diluted from generations of cross breeding with non-magical beings. However through study and practice, these warriors have harnessed their arcane potential for utilization in combat by blending the art of war with the practice of sealing arcane spells within their own being. Spell Binders focus primarily on attaining power through battle, often joining the front line in combat. Although not full casters, their slight arcane advantage makes them formidable fighters and with higher levels, potential support casters.

Seal Spell: (Su)
When Spell Binders make saves against spells, they may substitute their save bonus with a Spellcraft Check. Should they succeed, they may seal the spell within themselves, suffering no damage or effect; should they fail, they suffer damage and effects as normal and cannot attempt sealing a power again for rounds equal to their Int. Bonus. They can perform this ability an amount of times per day equal to 3 + their Int. Bonus.

Spell Binders can seal both arcane and divine spells within themselves however for casting purposes, Spell Binders are arcane spellcasters.

Release Seal:
Spell Binders are spontaneous casters who can release their sealed spells a certain amount of times per day equal to their Spell Binder level.

All spells cast by a Spell Binder have only somatic and verbal components although spells that have XP requirements still must be obliged.

The DC of a Spell Binder’s spell is equal to 10 + Int. Bonus + the Spell Level. The Caster Level of the spell is equal to the Spell Binder’s level. Meta Magic feats can be used on sealed spells however, like normal spells the spell level is adjusted according to the feat. A Spell Binder cannot cast spells above the highest spell level they know at their level.

Armored Mage: (Ex)
Due to their familiarity with battle, Spell Binders suffer no spell failure chance when wearing light armor at 1st level. At 10th level, they suffer no spell failure chance when wearing medium armor. Lastly at 20th level they may wear heavy armor without incurring a spell failure chance.

Arcane Gift (Focus) (Su)
Starting at first level, Spell Binders have honed their magical power to advance them in battle. 1x/day a Spell Binder may add a bonus to attack rolls equal to the amount of seals they posses. The effect lasts for rounds equal to 3 + their Wis. Modifier. They can only perform this action once per encounter.

At fourth this increases to 2x/day, at 6th to 3x/day, at 8th to 4x/day, at 12th to 5x/day and finally at 16th to 6x/day.

Bonus Feat:
At first level a Spell Binder gains a bonus feat. They may choose any feat from the fighter’s list or the following Meta-Magic Feats: Sudden Empower, Sudden Widen, Sudden Enlarge, Sudden Maximize, Sudden Silent, Sudden Still, or Sudden Quicken. The Battle Binder must meet the prerequisites to gain any of these feats. They gain additional feats at 5th, 9th, 13th and 17th levels.

Combat Casting: (Ex)
At 2nd level, Spell Binders gain the Combat Casting Feat.

Battlemage(Ex)
At 2nd Level, Spell Binders may add their Int. Bonus to their Initiative.

Mage’s Blood: (Ex)
At 3rd level, Spell Binders gain competence bonuses to saves against spells from the school of the seal they presently have active; meaning for instance a 3rd level Spell Binder presently has a sealed Fireball, that means they gain a + 2 to all evocation spells while they still have the sealed Fireball active. Should they swap out the Fireball for another spell, or another sealed spell of their own, the + 2 applies to the school of that seal. At 7th level this increases to + 3, at 11th it becomes + 4 and finally at 15th, the bonus becomes + 5. These bonuses stack with any other bonuses provided by another spell, enhancement or feat.

Trained Binding (Ex)
Spell Binders gain the ability to seal an additional spell at 5th level, a third at 11th, a fourth 16th and a fifth at 19th. However they can only have one sealed spell active at a time. To swap out one sealed spell for another takes a full round action. A Battle Binder cannot gain a new spell that is higher the highest spell level they know.

Arcane Gift (Mage’s Smite) (Su)
In addition to gaining more seals, Spell Binders gain the ability to harness the power of their spells to do more damage in combat. Whenever attacking an opponent with either a melee or ranged weapon, a Spell Binder may add damage equal to their Wis. Bonus x the amount of Seals they have. Should they miss, the damage is lost. The player must announce that they will do this ahead of time. Using this ability uses 1 usage of Mage's Smite. They may do this once per encounter.

Seal Focus (Ex)
By 10th level, a Spell Binders sealed spells gain a + 2 to their DC. These bonuses stack with any provided by spells, enhancements or feats.

Arcane Gift (Arcane Power) (Su)
By 10th level, a Spell Binder may focus their Arcane energies into a melee or ranged weapon granting it an enhancement bonus to overcome damage reduction. The enhancement bonus is equal to the amount of seals the Spell Binder has. The effect lasts rounds equal to 3 + the Spell Binder’s Wis. Mod. Using this uses up 2 uses of Mage Smiting. They may do this once per encounter.

Spell-like Seal (Su)
By 14th level, Spell Binders can use their active sealed spell as a Spell-like ability 1x/ per day. By 17th they can use it 2x/day and by 20th level 3x/day.

Arcane Gift (Arcane Bolster) (Su)
By 15th level, Spell Binders can use their Arcane Energies to bolster their AC. The enhancement bonus is equal to the amount of seals the Spell Binder has. The enhancement is a Competence Bonus. The effect lasts equal to 3 + Spell Binder’s Wis. Modifier. Using this ability uses up 2 of the Spell Binders Mage Smiting. They may do this once per encounter.

Greater Seal Focus (Ex)
At 20th level a Spell Binder’s sealed spells gain a + 4 to their DC. These bonuses stack with any provided by spells, enhancements or feats.
