How do i make a custom avatar?

Then you upload it (or have someone else do it). Then insert URL into the custom avatar area.

There are a lot of people on these boards who do avatars. Off the top of my head, there's Threeshades, The_Chilli_God, Serpentine, Darkcorvax, dallas_dakota, Mr. Saturn, Sneak (not currently accepting requests), Necromimesis, Thecrimsonmage...
