I've seen something called =][= come up in Warhammer 40k threads, and I guess it's some kind of tabletop strategy game, since it was mentioned in the context of people being disillusioned with 40k and migrating to =][=, but I can't find out any more information. I've tried googling it, but I think the sequence of characters confuses Google - so what is it?

it's a reference to the Inquisition (Xenos, Malleus or Hereticus), whose symbol is a stylised letter I. and =][= is a simplified version of that.

Within the context of a game system, =][= could refer to Inquisitor, a specilist game system using excellent 56mm scale models.

As a Specialist Game, as well, Games Workshop have made the rules for Inquisitor freely available on the interwebs. Even if you don't want to play the game (the Inquisitor miniatures are a lot larger scale, and thus much more expensive, even if you can find one for what you want), the Inquisitor rulebook has tons of great background information about the 40k universe.

Inquisitor is more roleplaying game than wargame, although combat is a big factor in it. The system is quite a lot more complex than 40k combat, since there are fewer miniatures, taking into account hit locations and the like.

The site, with the rulebook, is here (http://www.specialist-games.com/inquisitor/default.asp).

I would recomend to use warhammer 40K and Necromunda models for Inquisitor games, as they are much easier to modify (especially the plastic kits) than the actual inquisitor models

Thank you. I had been aware of inquisitor before, but I hadn't made the connection.
