Love the series. Love the game. Love everything I know about it. ... Yes, more then Final Fantasy.

I fell in love with the series when I got the first American FE for the game boy advance. I played it night and day without sleep.

I just barely got Fire Emblem Raidiant Dawn for Xmas, one of my favorites. I was slightly dissapointed with PoR, since it was WAY too easy. However this one makes a good jump in the difficulty. Everything is just so... Awesome.

I'm not a graphics person, so I don't care about how they are out-dated. They look fine to me.

My favorite character for each of them would be...

FE 7- Jaffar, all the way
FE 8 (Sacred Stones) - Ephriam (A Main character, that is a one man army)
FE 9 (PoR) - Volke & Zihark (Tie, they are both very good. To bad Zihark is not as good in RD...)
FE 10 (Raidiant Dawn) - Volug (Best. Unit. In. Any. FE. Ever. Gave him Paragon skill, lots of buffs. He just won't die even when I want him too... If I actually did:smallbiggrin: )

This thread is dedicated to Fire Emblem Fans everywhere! This is to ask help, and advice. And anything other Fire Emblem orianted.

I also got a Fire Emblem Heal/Hurt (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69008) if anyone would like to join:smallbiggrin:.

A problem with RD is that the story jumps around and you are forced to used characters. They also completely hacked the support system(I don't care if anybody can support with anybody, I want real conversations!). Battles with the Dawn Brigrade(sp)? can be absolutely ridiculous (and the rest of the fights ridiculously easy). Third teir wasn't really that much of an addition and kept the stat caps for characters too low. Ike's new look is mugly(Ugly in a masculine way).

That is all I can remember from the top of my head. It's a fine game withine itself but I did not receive the changes well. I hope they go back to real support conversations and stay with a single group.

Yeah, the support system really sucked in RD. I was hoping for something more. It seemed like they threw everything into it in the last second or something. Though, I never really used the support system till PoR. I barely even looked at it till then...

The story jumping does have it's pro and cons, but it really depends if you really care about the story or not. I personally don't mind it as much, but I wish I could use certain characters... That's the only thing I don't like about it.

All in all, one of my favs.

I'm playing the game right now, and I must admit I am growing frustrated with the strength of some of the units. I'm still really early in the game and on one hand I have Sothe and Volug Destroying all the enemies on their own, and on the other I have Edward and Lenardo getting one hit killed. Anyone have any suggestions for keeping the low hit points units alive?

Soften up enemies to the point where your weaker characters can one-shot them. Don't over-rely on your currently powerful characters, they don't gain experience as quickly if their levels are too high compared to the enemies, so kills are wasted. Volug actually gets an experience penalty as part of the skill that keeps him shifted, so use him as little as possible. If Leonardo has a problem with dying, you aren't using him correctly. If you proceed carefully, your ranged units should rarely get into fights that they aren't guaranteed to survive, and should never get into melee. If you absolutely have to enter ranged combat where a ranged attacker has a risk of dying on the enemy's turn, use a Hand Axe or Javelin instead.

I've played the GBA fire emblem games, and path of radiance...gotta say that I only really enjoyed the sacred stones. After finishing that one, the others all seemed like pretty much the same thing.

All you needed to do was grab hold of your strongest character (Seth, Titania, etc), and use them to bodyguard anyone you wanted to use. The main character always needed this as it seems Lords have nonexistant defences and not so great health (barring one playthrough where Erika actually became quite the monster. Ike is also pretty ok, but mainly only due to Aether, which is overpowered). Archers are basically useless unless you have the patience to level them, whereupon Snipers are very good. Mages are the same, as neither class has enough defence or health to stand up very long.

So, I always put my focus into the cavalry and infantry units. Cavalier/paladin, and knight/general respectively. Given paladins can fight the entire weapon triangle by themselves (even on PoR, where they're restricted more), and have good all round defences), they're pretty much the strongest class in the game for a general purpose army, I think. Generals just won't die in melee combat unless you get poor luck on their stat increases.

Also, if I could manage to do it, raising a fragile myrmidon into a swordmaster was well worth it. Joshua was my most imbalanced and overpowered unit the one time I had the patience to raise him up.

And, I passed the game mostly using just these types of units. You don't really need the others, unless you want a specialist army.

At least, I didn't have any problems whatsoever with beating any of the games following this rule.

I think I'll offer my 2 cents as well...

I highly suggest you level Edward up, he is one of the few early units that don't really get outclassed by other units. He is easily better then Zihark (Why do you have to suck now?) or Mia. Level him up alot. And don't bother using Meg, at all, she sucks.

As for Lenardo, keep him a decent level. Though he gets outdated, and is significantly weaker then other units you get later. Level up him decently, but not alot.

About Volug, give him Paragon skill once you get it. And give him stat boosting items. The Paragon skill will grant him double XP, thus eliminating the half XP penalty. I've did all of that and he is my best unit.
You don't have too... But it really worked out for me:smallbiggrin:

You shouldn't, only 4 of them came out in English for the UK and US.
The rest of them (FE's 1-6) were Japan only sadly...

They are making a remake of FE 1, I REALLY hope that they release it for the US. Or at least one new Fire Emblem for the US in a year or two!!

Oh, you lucky colonials! i dont get no Fire Emblem for ages:smallfurious:

However, favourite characters?
FE 7- Jaffar, all the way
FE 8 (Sacred Stones) - Lute. She's just...so very adorable! And kicks ass.
FE 9 (PoR) - Volke- Yes, he was frail but the animations were utterly worth it.
FE 10 (Raidiant Dawn) - No comment. Curseees!

Any idea when its out over here?

Eh, I personally think FE4 was the best one of the series, if only for the insane plot twist halfway through the game, the whole character pairing system, and the disgustingly broken legendary weapons that both you and your enemies get.

That said, though, I'd say Pent of FE7 is my favorite character. Pent + Louise FTW!

Oh, also have to give a shout-out for Ray of FE6. Because protagonists who try so hard to act evil are amusingly cute. He's like a cross between Vaarsuvius and Belkar...um, on second thought, forget I said that.

I loved Sacred Stones more than any of the others, because I could carry it with me and because it was better than the first one.

My favorite character from that, as hard as it is to choose: Seth. I know, he's the guy who's purposefully overpowered, but he's just too awesome through the story. L'Arachel's little troupe was pretty funny, though.

I really liked Sacred Stones for it's monster encounters, and the tower and ruin levels! So you can keep leveling up, but gold was a problem... For awhile.

Though Fire Emblem 7... (first one in America)
That side quest where you get Jaffar... Yikes... I still have nightmares:smalleek:

@Mirrinus: Your avatar... Canas?
And great sig:smallbiggrin:

I've just tried Radiant Dawn on Easy rather then Medium, and there is a huge difference. My guys don't die on Easy.

Does anyone know if Fire Emblem DS is comfirmed for the U.S. yet?
Since I really want another Fire Emblem...

And I heard it's going to have online play, does anyone know how it will work?

I'm playing through Path of Radiance right now; it's my first FE. My main problem is I keep trying to use too many characters actively (to the point of actually using Makalov of all people for one mission.) I think I've got a decent balance know.

And Mia's my favorite character. For one, Vantage+Adept+Ludicrous Speed+Ludicrous Crit means things die pretty rapidly. For another thing, her support conversations and personality in general are freaking win.

Overall, I tend to focus on light infantry (swordmasters and halberdiers), an even split of cavalry and air cavalry (Marcia is also win), and token ranged support. I underuse laguz, because I feel they're kinda one-dimensional and tricky to deploy without a Demi Band. Powerful, though.

Oh, and nice sigbanner, Mirrinus.

Ahh, Path of Radiance... Zihark, Volke, Nephenee... Nephenee was awesome. I'm getting Radiant Dawn when Nintendo decide to release it in Europe.

Sadly Zihark and Nephenee both suck in Radiant Dawn... Badly. Zihark is easily out-classed by Edward, even when he is still at his first class!!
Nephenee... I have magic users that have higher strength then her. He has good speed and skill, but the really bad attack isn't worth to level her up.

They are both some of the best in PoR however.

Volke is just plain awesome.

The seventh (or, to me, the first) was my all time favorite game ever. SS was just to easy. Though I did just start playing it for the third time last night, and I tried it on difficult. It was almost as hard as the 1st game on normal. Though, back to the 1s game, I hated Lyn's story on easy. I never got Wallace again anyway. I upgrade Kent instead. And level 18xx I just played the first time like a month ago. Oh. My. God.

HUGE spoiler... If you haven't played the 7th/1st and gotten level 18xx (or 19xx in hectors) then don't read this! Seriously.

I mean, Nergal being Ninian and Nil's daddy? Holy $#!%... Still, I love that level...

Oh Nintendo, how do you create such perfect games? Anyway, I'm still on chapter 6 in radiant dawn, normal mode, of course. An easy (albeit long) way to keep all your good units (or plot critical units) from dying, and then getting them a bunch of exp, is to un-equip all of Tauroneo's weapons and send him charging in. To quote one of the previous fire emblem's knight/general units, "Bwahahahaha! Let them break their weapons against me!" Just make sure Tauroneo has some herbs/vulneraries/elixers. Then, just send in edward, or whatever unit needs exp.

And my favorite FE characters
FE 7: 5)Jaffar 4)Canas 3)Guy 2)Matthew 1)Hector
FE 8: 3)Ross 2)Ephraim 1)Joshua
FE 9: 5)Volke 4)Rhys 3)Ike 2)Nephenee 1) Soren
FE 10: Haven't played through yet, but hopefully Edward and Soren will be on the list. Sothe, if his non-suckyness in this game makes up for his suckyness last game's, may join my favorites, but no sooner than that.

AWW MAN! I'm on easy, mostly because Dawn is my first FE game. Now I want all the others.

HELPFUL HINT: Nephenee sucks now. The only time she's useful is the first time you control her. After that, take all her stuff and never try to use her again.

Aran's the best one of that class. Sadly, you can barely use him... So I just go with Danved, even though he isn't the best unit either.

Volug owns... Maxed stats at last level:smallbiggrin:

Beat Fire Emblem Raidiant Dawn on hard mode just last week too.

I really want Radiant Dawn, it's a shame that it's unlikely to be released in Europe, Nintendo of France says it's coming but nothing else does. Though I'll stay positive.

Sothe is a great guy if you like the ninja/thief characters. Moves fast, can use knives and daggers. In fact I made a throwing knife for him and now I'm wondering why I didn't do this before!

He un-leashes huge amounts of 1-hit kills upon the enemy:smalltongue:
