Hi I'm not exactly a regular on the Arts and crafts forum, but I thought this would be the best place to come for this advice.

My good lady wife is looking for a professional mouse for a Mac, she needs to do precision work with Illustrator and it's ilk. She is currently using a microsoft mouse which she is not happy with at all, I thought a mouse was a mouse was a mouse, but this is not so... apparantly.

So anyway you guys are the most likely to have some knowledge in this area, the cost is not really an issue so don't worry about that.

If you don't find one there, Probably not one ANYWHERE :smalltongue:

Have you considered a graphics tablet?

I got a super nifty gaming mouse for Christmas, and I think it has spoilt her :smallamused:
I know my wife has used tablets before, and she did specifically ask me for a mouse so I guess thats what she wants, though I know tablets have those nifty pressure sensors on and such so if you know of a good one then I'd like to hear about that too. I should force her to get an account here so she can field these questions for herself. Just need to work out how to do that without losing a limb...

Agalyon, I was hoping for some specific recomendations really.

try your "Deathadder" in the Mac...

USB mice are generic so there should be no problems with it.

good point, (I'm soo thick) though the Mac ain't bought yet, I could try it on her laptop jobbie. It comes with a driver disc, I wonder if the software is compatable (stupid raincoat).
Oh does anyone know anything about networking Macs and PC's together? Mostly just so we can use the same email server any issues I should be aware of?

Personally I like the Mighty Mouse from Apple. The wireless one. You'll need batteries, true, but that one has the nifty little track ball for scrolling up down side to side, etc. Very handy for zipping around on. Works fine with Illustrator as far as I know. Plus it is a two button mouse... well 3. 4 if you count that you can click on the scroll wheel. And just about any usb mouse will work on a mac. Just plug it in. Usually you don't have to load software or anything. Macs are nice that way.

Luckily, someone, some time ago, thought it might be nice to have standard network protocols. And so, years later, we have IP which which works relatively well. So there should be no problem as to make them live on the same network.
Again, mail is a set of standard protocols (SMTP, POP3, IMAP) which work over TCP/IP. So no issues there.

Now, about sharing files... It's usually faster to copy them to a USB Hard disk or use FTP to transfer them than trying to setup any kind of folder sharing.
If ever a step by step to file sharing between Win/Mac is here (http://macs.about.com/cs/tipstutorials/a/xp_osx_sharing.htm).

Oh and the wireless mouse only works if the Mac has Bluetooth. Which I believe all the new ones do. The older ones didn't.

Though for precision work I'd live to try out one of those Wacom tablets. I've heard they are nice. I've used a mouse with my right hand (as usual) for any computer artwork you might have seen done from me (avatars, etc.) but the truth is...

I am not right handed. *tosses mouse to the other hand*

I am actually a lefty and was heavily into art when I was younger (college and all life before college) so having a Wacom tablet would be very cool to combine the two things that I am good at. Just never gotten around to getting myself one, though.

So there you have it. More info than you need to know. :smalltongue:

Looks like the Razer site supports OS so thanks Archie, that is the one... or more specifically this (http://www.afterhours.co.uk/razer-lachesis-4000dpi-banshee-blue-pro-gaming-mouse-p-3481.html?osCsid=3213ffab1b3d12a9ce48a42f8015ac08) is the one.
