Title was hard to make... And probably wrong.

In my current campain I have 3 lvl mage player who would like to combine Might and Magic. His mage has great physical attributes (15 st, 16 con) and high Int.

Are there any good multiclas options or cheesy prestigeclasses for Warrior Mage? Or, how to build Warrior Mage?

Current build?
Books available?
Is polymorph/alter self allowed?

Basic concept:

Fighter1/Wizard4/Spell Sword1/Abjurant Champion 5/Knight's Phantom 9 or Eldritch Knight 9

Thats without anything fancy like Sacred Exorcist or Jade Phoenix Mage.

Here's (http://bb.bbboy.net/thegamingden-viewthread?forum=1&thread=651) my current vote for winner. So funny for being so wrong.

I gotta go with the Grapple Wizard myself. Best 'I got shot in the back with 8 arrows' death in the campaign so far (and sadly, not the only one.)

What do you mean by "mage"? What sort of caster does he want to be? Does he already have levels in any casting class?

He could always just go Duskblade if not.

Wow. That's so wrong yet so surprisingly awesome. Looks like my next wiz/sorc build

I must emphasize - make sure you get abjurant champion.
and 1, or 3 levels of spellsword helps. Depending on how you build it.

You need a BAB of +3 to get swiftblade.

This build is also listed in this thread: http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=69544&page=4 .

Starting at this page, some issues with it are listed, it has a few drawbacks: a foe with close quarters combat, reach weapons or a ring of freedom of movement could sink you. However, you're also a wizard, so not all of your resources are invested in this build, only most. Since much of the magic in it involves no save, you may be able to get away with 13 int, improving con or dex some for AC or HP (defense, since spells are spent on grappling, is something this build needs. Bad.).

Casting enlarge may be your first priority, otherwise, it's babau slime against opponents you know you can successfully get to to grapple. The enlarge is to improve your reach and to avoid AOOs.

From which book can you find "Knight Phantom" and/or "Abjurant Champion"?

Her (that player) consept of what her character should be "when he grows up" is necromancer who can swing a mace. Now character has 3 lvl of Wizard (Melfs acid arrow for teh win!). Cleric is out of option unfortunately.

I only have "3 Big Book" but I am capable of buying more. I dont have those books with my right now, but was Eldrich Knight in there?

Knight Phantom is in Five Nations of Eberron; it's also in the web excerpt from said book, so you can take a look at it here. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20050706a&page=4) Abjurant Champion is in Complete Mage. However, given the brief concept summary you just described, Dread Necromancer may be just what the player wants.. it's a base class in Heroes of Horror that gets a necromancy-focused spell list, light armor proficiency and casting, and a set of fun necromancy and negative energy-related class features.

You can sort of do some neat stuff with some fairly stock wizards in melee if you are willing to make things a little risky.

My last wizard Vintsehko was around 13th level (Wizard, all 5 levels of that construct making prestige class and a few levels geometer), and he was known to melee pretty frequently. What really helps is having a +1/+1 Spell storing/Spell storing quarterstaff and knowing sudden maximize. He would fill up the quarterstaff with maximized spells on his off days meaning he could get down and dirty for a few rounds if he wanted to and hit way harder than the fighter.

Hmmm, that Complete Mage seems like a sourcebook to buy. IŽd rather stay out of Eberron, though. :)

Hey, thanks! I shall buy that too. And my local gameshop even has that in their shelves.

He clould swap his Int and Cha around before playing as a Battle Sorcerer: page 114 of http://www.crystalkeep.com/d20/rules/DnD3.5Index-Classes-Base.pdf . While he would get less spells/day then a normal Sorcerer while having slower spell level progression, he would be a descent fighter while avoiding multi-classing.

if you just want to be "able to swing a mace" without all the arcane strike or truestrike/power attack goodies, how about picking up the skillful weapon enhancement (Complete Arcane, I believe... away from books... grants weapon prof and cleric bab for that weapon).

Edit: IMO Stay away from Battle Sorcerer, it will make you feel very confined losing what few spells known the sorcerer has. The fighter dip + spell sword is well worth it if you just want to use armor (Mithril Armor, add in Twilight as well). The only trick is playing your favored class based on race.

The problem with PrCs which require Wizard or Sorcerer levels is that your HPs will probably suffer initially (it wouldn't be as much of a problem if you were going for a mage who specialises in ranged combat, but melee fighters really need as many HPs as they can get). Taking a PrC could als result in the player needing to take feats and/or skills which they may not want as well Also, how much would mithril/twilight armour cost? If you wanted a lot of spell versatillity, wands and scrolls could help.
