Some background: This is my first full homebrew project, which I'm undertaking for my Year 12 (final year before university, for those who understand as much of the Australian system as I understand of yours) Design and Technology Major Design Project. The Major Design Project (henceforth, MDP) is worth 60% of the final mark for the subject. The MDP "involves students selecting and applying appropriate design, production and evaluation skills to a product, system or environment which satisfies an identified need or opportunity." So basically, I have decided to create a variant d20 game to combat some of the weaknesses in D&D, d20 Modern and so forth. The game leaves both the modern day and epic fantasy behind, opting for the steampunk world seen in many and varied texts, such as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Discworld, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells etc. Further information on the genre can be found at the Repository of all Knowledge. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk) The world also draws heavily from film noir, Gothic fiction and 1984-esque totalitarian fiction. Oh, in random news, I have used the metric system instead of Imperial, because D&D's imperial system has always annoyed me, and I have removed beauty from charisma, making it a score between 1 (hideous) and 6 (sexcellent), which is rolled on different die according to each race.
I have brewed the races and half-brewed a class, all of which can be found at the links below. I would like to request assistance in balancing them, and any other recommendations. Finally, none of the races include ability modifications, as I'm leaving this as an easy way to balance them after testing. Without further ado, The Races:
- Humans (http://bwco.wetpaint.com/page/Steampunk+Human)
- Gargoyles (http://bwco.wetpaint.com/page/Steampunk+Gargoyles)
- Kartika (http://bwco.wetpaint.com/page/Steampunk+Kartika)
- Labori (http://bwco.wetpaint.com/page/Steampunk+Labori)
- Mutants (http://bwco.wetpaint.com/page/Steampunk+Mutants)
- Vampyres (http://bwco.wetpaint.com/page/Steampunk+Vampyres)
And the classes:
- Bard
- Battle-mage
- Gunslinger (http://bwco.wetpaint.com/page/Steampunk+Gunslinger)
- Explorer
- Necromancer
- Outcast
- Priest
- Rogue
- Scientist
- Warrior
Well, that's all that's been done for the moment. I'll edit as more is completed, and thanks in advance for your assistance,
~ Rhys
