I don't fully understand this little bit of the multiheaded creature (page 125 of savage species)

Hit Dice: Each additional head adds 2 HD to the base creature's total.

So... let's assume I have 7 class levels and 2 level adjustment(from multiheaded, gaining 1 more head).
Does it mean that I gain the 2 hd for free or have to spend them myself.
eg example 1: class 5/level adjustment 2/magical beast hit die 2
or
example 2: class 7/level adjustment 2/magical beast hit die 2

or have I completely misunderstood the entire passage?

Thanks in advance.

I'm fairly certain that it works like the Lycanthrope template, so "Example 1" would be ECL 9, "Example 2" would be ECL 11

[edit:] Stupid unresponsive keyboard, making me look like one of those punk "I don't need to spell correctly" chatroom kids ...grumble...

Okay, so if I have to build a level 9 character, I would go with example A.

Thanks.

I believe the HD would count against ECL in the same way any HD do. Thus you would have 2 racial HD and a +2 LA. It's the gnoll problem all over again!
