In an IRC Campaign we are dealing with an odd disease. Now my Archivist (level 6) is copying a scroll of Remove Disease into his prayer book, and is hoping that will fix it, But if it doesn't what other spells might? (Preferably no higher then 5th level spells.)

Break Enchantment, Neutralize Poison, and Remove Curse are the ones that come to mind.

If the disease is a magical effect that reduces an ability score, then Lesser Restoration (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/restorationLesser.htm) should work. If it impedes movement in any way, Freedom of Movement (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/freedomOfMovement.htm) will supress it's effects while it lasts. If it's considered a death effect, or involves negative energy, try Death Ward (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/deathWard.htm) to supress it.

Heal (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/spells/heal.htm) can work as a sort of catchall (well, not all, but a lot) of different effects, and sometimes certain afflictions need at least a Heal spell or greater to be removed. It's available as a 5th level spell from the Adept list.

Reincarnation should also work.

In extreme cases a Limited Wish or even a Wish/Miracle may be necessary.

GM fiat. If a disease can't be removed by Remove Disease then the GM can rule that a given plant or similar thing can cure it, requiring the characters to quest for it; IMO thats more interesting than a simple spell, as well as being a recurring theme in fantasy fiction (such as Kingsfoil in LOTR).

I know at the very least its not a poison.

I doubt it is magical in nature, but I'll check.

Ooh Nice one. Thats probably my next best option.

Reincarnation should also work.

A bit extreme there.

A bit out of my price range unfortunately.

If it doesn't work, this is my guess as well, Remove Disease seems almost to easy.

Phantasmal Killer.

What?

Lets hope my party members don't go that insane in this campaign.

If remove disease doesn't works, it's either of magical origins or some nasty thing your DM homebrewed. So cast break enchantment (or remove curse if previous isn't accessible) and dispel magic afterwards. If it doesn't work, try heal as a broad-effect effect. If even that doesn't work, go for restoration or preferably, greater restoration. If that doesn't work, strip naked and cast disjunction. If it's magical and it's not directly from the gods, it will work. If even that doesn't work, try wish and/or miracle. If wish and miracle doesn't work, is some kind of disease of DM Fiat, and only DM Fiat can cure it.

Go to the nearest metropolis, go to the highest level cleric, beg him to heal you. If he cannot heal you, infect him (accidentally of course) and have him assist. This helps overcome DM fiat. If the Cleric wants you to go find something, insist on the Cleric going too. If the Cleric refuses, refuse to go to, reasoning that if the cleric needs to help if he wants to live too, ect ect ect. Cleric won't kill you (evil action) but you might shift to neutral for this, or possibly evil. Still though...
