STAR WARS: DAWN OF DEFIANCE
Episode I
THE TRAITOR’S GAMBIT

It is a dark time in the galaxy. The evil Galactic Empire has spread
from the Deep Core to the Outer Rim, and everywhere
the Empire’s tyranny can be felt.
Fleeing from the oppression of the Emperor’s minions, agents of
Senator Bail Organa have run to a remote space station above
Brentaal. Known to be a vocal opponent of the Empire,
Organa may be the last hope of freedom in the galaxy.
In the hopes of stopping these dissidents before they can
reach the Senator, the Empire has alerted its forces on
Sel Zonn Station, where the struggle for liberty rages on,
and the first sparks of rebellion have begun to burn. . . .

Off in the distance hung space station orbited the world of Brentall. The station was at one time seen as a jewel orbiting the planet, now however many said it looked like a scrap heap. Sel Zonn station was worn and used, there was much upkeep on the landing platforms which looked new, the central pillar however looked like it had seen less upkeep over the years. Three massive platforms with docking bays made a large chunk of the station, and finally on top of this was a well up kept platform for the loyalists of the empire.

It has been a largely quite day on the landing docks, finally one of the local freighters came in and landed. No one noticed one more human leaving the shuttle, he was walking off of the shuttle with a Sullustian. However the attendants handing out data pads on the local activity an sites to see , lazily they handed them the data pad and told them to keep moving.

A smaller and older looking ship that looked like it might have dated back to the mid clone wars had just docked, it looked like a refurbished military ship. Only one passenger left the ship, he was of average height but that was about all that was average. He had several days of stubble, and he wore the camo style clothing associated with military warfare, he also carried a gun by his side. The local security forces looked him over once before deciding they did not feel like trouble, they handed him a data pad and told him he could go about his business.

Finally one last ship landed with a dull thud, this thing was not pretty either. Looked like it had come from deep space, it had blaster marks all over it and a barely held together look, this was odd considering it was a relatively new model YT-1300. One man got off of the ship, as the cloud of vapors from the landing gear cleared it was clear he was not human. His orange colour began to show, and soon a breath mask appeared over his face and the distinct features of a Kel Dor. An attendant quickly gave the ship a look of worry as if it was about to explode but handed the Kel Dor a data pad anyways and wished him on his way.

In the quick burst of steam no one noticed the quick and lithe female Kel Dor jumping out of a side hatch and darting into the shadows of some crates. She quickly looks around and notices a data pad someone had thrown away and pick it up, after all it might come in handy later.

One thing everyone noticed was that a small group of storm troopers were now walking about and making random inspections, best not be around when they start poking and looking for trouble. Everyone starts to quickly as they can leave the docking bay without looking suspicious.

I need a stealth check for Saah Tarl.

Bob thanks the pilot of his transport before he walks down the boarding ramp. He surveys the docking bay as he does so, taking in the bustle of activity as the crowd filters towards the station entrance.

Taking the datapad handed to him by some anonymous being he shifts his rifle's strap more comfortably on his shoulder and seems to be engrossed in viewing the detail on the pad while he casually makes his way with the flow of beings passed the white clad troopers. Trying not to attract unwarranted attention.

The Sullustan accepts his datapad with a nod and word of thanks to the Imperial greeter and continues walking alongside his human companion, chattering amiably.

The data pad contains a lot of information about the small space station, most of it is boring and you skip over it. Finally after a few moments of scanning for anything useful you come across a list of note able locations.

Gundark's Cantina: Owned and operated by a gruff Human male who has named "Gundark" Saff, Gundark's Cantina is a place where people from all walks of life can come and relax. Gundark has very faint Anti-Alien sentiments, however he does not stop anyone from having a round at his cantina, because of this it is a favourrite spot of non humans as well as a place for humans to mingle with them.

The Credit Chip: A local casino that attracts a wide variety of patrons, it is operated by a quite and brooding human male named Cecil Vane. He does not like the empire, and they have a bit of a grudge as well since they always leave with less money then they came in with.

Delgas Medical Supplies: A corporate medical facility, Byraa Fenn is the chief doctor in charge of the clinic. They will treat anyone who pays and show no bias towards non humans. Rumors are she is a good way to get in contact with people who are otherwise hard to meet.

Mechanical Allies: A droid repair and sales shop, run by a Twi'Lek named San. He is known to be somewhat untrustworthy and the Empire has given his shop a negative view. He only remains in business due to his ability to talk and pay.

Sian Jobl

Sian continues to walk with the doctor, taking quick steps to keep up.

Hey, how 'bout a round at Gundark's? Might be a good place to wait for the others.

((I'm assuming that Sian is walking with Dr. Kast from the description in the first post. I'll edit this if I'm wrong.))

Once he's past the scrutiny of the stormtroopers Bob actually reads the information in the datapad as opposed to pretending to do so. Since his wookiee contact on Kashyyyk was not specific about who to meet or where to meet them past identifying this station he decides to visit the cantina while he formulates a plan. He heads in that direction.

Upon reaching the cantina you take in the sights and sounds of all the different races from the galaxy. The one thing that you can notice is unlike other Cantina this place looks fairly well kept and the smell level is down to a minimum, a miracle with all these different races in the Cantina. Over at the bar you see presumably Gundark, a very tall human he looks like he was once a bouncer and he has several scars on his arms, he also wears a worn leather vest that looks quite in contrast to the clean room, dark and dirty. He is lazily washing some glasses while always keeping one eye on the crowd just in case something gets out of hand and he is needed.

EDIT
this goes for all of you, and the only people here who know each other would be the good ol Doc and Sian.

Soridan Talref

After thanking his pilot briefly and fitting his breath mask and goggles, Soridan exited the comfortable atmosphere of his craft, and accepted the datapad he was offered upon leaving. Activating the piece of machinery, he read through its contents, mildly surprised at the frankness of some of the information inside, and speaking his thoughts, as was his custom.

Hmm. Gundark's cantina is 'mildly anti-alien'. I do not like the sound of that. There is no alternative cantina mentioned, so there I shall go.

With that, Soridan set off in the direction of Gundark's Cantina, following the directions on the datapad.

Bob saunters to the bar thumb scrolling through the datapad to see if there's any other useful information contained in it. He orders a corellian ale from the tall human and then looks for a free booth to sit in where he can face the door of the establishment.

Shaah Tarl

Crouching behind some crates, Shaah scans the hangar before pocketing the datapad and quickly and quietly moving to the closest large group of people.

[roll0]

Doing her best to hide among the crowd, Shaah waits until she is outside to glance at the recovered datapad. Tweaking her eye guards slightly to allow better reading, she scans the locations listed on the device before settling on the cantina. Glancing around quickly, she walks in that direction, barring any unusual confrontations.

As you peer around the room and especially at the door you notice that there are generally nice people coming in and average. However you continue to look, hopeful that you will find someone who may be able to help you. So far the only note able person to walk through the door was a Kel Dor who looked far from the homeworld.

perception check needed from Bob

As Soridan enters the tavern it is clear some action is going down, their appears to be a human watching the door. You are not sure what to make of it, but he continues to let his gaze return to the door every so often. He looks very rugged and in a sense well worn, he is wearing a camo cloak with forest style to it and has a rifle strapped to his back.

Doctor Kast

Strolling off the perfectly average looking transport, the hero of our story chatted amiably with his sidekick. The Sullustian, presumedly known to him as Sian Jobl, seemed everything a daring fellow could ask for in a partner. Agile, intelligent, and able to while the hours away chatting about a wide variety of subjects. What they specifically talked about is probably quite unimportant as even the attendants appeared to pay no significant attention, before handing Sian the data pad and ushering them onward.

"I've got to say, a stiff drink at Gundarks sounds like just the thing to settle a fellows nerves after a wrenching trip through space. I don't know what it is about these old ships, but they always set my stomach to spinning circles around itself. Hrrm, it looks like half the people coming out of the transports make Gundark's their first stop. Do you think a name like Gun Dark indicates anything we should keep an eye out for, above and beyond the obvious of course?"

And indeed, when the two strolled into the tavern the Doctor gazed long and wide about the Cantina as if it were a moment in an old western film. Still, unlike many a protagonist the doctor felt he was sorely outclassed by a few of the monstrously muscled fellows lurking in the shadier parts of the Cantina. He averted his eyes, finally, and made for a comfortable looking bar seat where he ordered up a drink for himself and his ally. A quick exchange of a cred-chip takes care of the bill, and a paranoid glance is spared for any brewing trouble.

"Nice enough place. Hope nobody spikes our drink with something unsavory. Any idea of some of the local customs of this place? Does it show that kind of thing on your data pad? I'd hate to royally piss of some local dignitary because I failed to bless his sneeze, or the like."

((There you go. And, no, you cannot edit posts after making a die roll. It's a way of keeping people from fudging their results.))

Sian Jobl

Sian hops up onto a bar stool next to the doctor and accepts the drink.

I don't think there's much that makes this station different from any of the thousands like it in the galaxy: rusting, ill-maintained, and old. And I doubt we'll see any dignitaries here. As long as we keep a low profile we'll be fine.

He takes a swig of his drink and turns toward the doctor.

What do you make of the guy with the blaster rifle over there in the booth? Looks like he's waiting for somebody.

Soridan, glad of his eyepiece for once, despite the discomfort it places upon him, covertly scans the room and its motley assortment of patrons. Deciding that nothing is overtly dangerous, orders a glass of wine, ignoring the derisive glance from the man behind the counter.

After being served, he takes his drink, settles down at an empty table and, reaching a hand into his plain jacket, removes a small pack of battered looking playing cards. Placing them on the table, he begins to arrange them in the traditional solitare style.

As he arranges the cards, Soridan listens to the background chatter of the room. Behind him, hears someone say;

"I doubt we'll see any dignitaries here."

and is unable to stop a small smile from reaching his lips.

Doctor Kast

Doctor Kast takes the somewhat romantic approach to his stiff liquor, sipping at it with a slow deliberation to give the ice time to melt and mix while fighting back the sensation to gag that comes with every swallow of the foul stuff. After about the third masochistic sample, the salt-and-pepper haired human regards his newest companion.

“Geh… this stuff packs a kick! I’ve been thinking about the Docking bay, and the way it’s so well maintained. I know a docking bay is a station’s lifeblood and all, you’ve said as much on our way here, but I’m betting the empire's Military quarters are just as fresh. The rest is pretty run down from the looks of it. I hate to be the one to piss in the liquor but this is the future; this is a shadow of how things are going to turn out.”

Between the two of them there is an extra sentence hanging in the air, “Unless we change it for the better.” But that part is better left unsaid, especially because it looked like there was a game of Sabacc or the like brewing.

“The guy with the rifle? Dangerous. He’s got the look of someone who had a buddy die, and that doesn’t often make for good dinner conversation. That’s my guess, anyway.”

Entering the cantina, the young Kel Dor quickly sits herself at small, empty booth. Pulling out the datapad once more, she tinkers with it quietly, possibly inspecting it for additional information or other tricks. Occasionally she looks up from her work at the patrons, noting the few at the bar and the one, oddly, playing some card game with himself despite the sabacc table.

[roll0] - Essentially just to see what she can make of the datapad. Idle roll, really.

As you look at the door you notice a Kel Dor walk in inspecting a data pad. She is oblivious that he is not fitting in and he eventually finds a seat in the room. At one of the tables a game of cards has begun, no challengers as of yet but you can see him arranging the cards now.

As you guys start to settle into your drinks a band comes up on stage and begins to play a different song than what was playing. It is a relatively fast and upbeat tune. So far nothing looks out of the ordinary.

As Shaah enters the cantina fiddling with his datapad he takes a seat and continues. Everyone seems to be settling into their drinks for the moment, going back to the data pad you press some keys on it and after a few minutes of searching the hidden files which you find nothing other than the files that allow the datapad to run.

I need perception checks from everyone now that we are all here.

Coming through the door is a human woman who is limping, it is clear she is in considerable pain from the look on her face. Finally she kicks over a table and takes cover behind it.

“Mech shop? That’s an understatement. I’m guessing it won’t be long before the Empire sends troopers in to clean up this mess. Get a good look at everyone’s face if you can, because we’re probably gonna get questioned.”

The doctor darts a hand down to one of the two weapon holsters he’s got strapped to his hips and feels around with futility. Then it strikes him, he’d pawned off the guns to add a healthy sum to his cred-chip and buy transport over to this station. A desperate hand grabs the nearest weapon available, one of the glasses for his liquor, and clutches it with an eye towards the combatants. Which one was in the right, and which one was in the wrong? This wasn’t a fair fight at all, and he was itching to intervene, but common sense warned him otherwise.

Soridan's hand freezes over a card as he hears the disturbance, and as the woman and her pursuers come in, he quickly puts a foot under a table leg and flips the table over, attempting to create some makeshift cover. Ducking behind the upturned table, his back to the flat table-top, he considers his next move, his breathing unit and eyepiece masking any emotion he might be showing.
