Where does one go about finding information about said class? Is it free online, or does one have to go spend rediculous amounts of cash on one of those godforsaken "Unearthed" or "Complete" majiggers?

One would have to buy Complete Arcane, yes.

you will call shenanagins when you find out that the only real PrC's designed with the warlock in mind are in the Complete Mage...along with some extra invocations and other useful warlock stuff.

So...Complete Arcane...and Complete Mage.

Look for the cheese that one can do with the Eldritch Theurge (I think it is the theurge...priest/warlock)...done right you can pretty much have 15th level in each by level 20...someone did an optimization with that a while ago..it was fun.

If you're going to continue playing 3.5 after 4th ed comes out, complete arcane (the only book you actually need for warlocks) should drop considerably in price, possibly to free if you find someone generous. If you're switching, they should be in the PHB.

Either way, 4th ed looks to be an easing of your conundrum.

Or, as an alternative, you could find who-so-ever let you hear about said warlocks, and beg the book from them.

As for PrC's I prefer the sorcerer warlock. So much magic... so few actions. ... oh wait... quicken!

And Fiendish Codex II if you want the Hellfire Warlock PrC. :smallsigh:

Or you could get it online from Crystal Keep (http://www.crystalkeep.com/d20/index.php).

(Yes, it's a legal site)

That one's in one of WotC's online excerpts (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20061207a&page=3), actually.
