I recently recieved a strange coin after purchasing a couple items... On one side it says F A O (There are dots inbetween the letters.) and under that is a picture of what appears to be an army official. Under that it says Tonga 1979. On the other side it says FAKALAHI ME'AKAI with a picture of cows grazing underneath the words. Then under the cows it says 10 Seniti. Anyone know where the thing came from/how much it is worth?

Google is your friend (http://www.wcoins.com/imagegallery/Tonga.htm)... :smallwink:
And the obligatory Wiki link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tongan_pa'anga)..

Argh, why didn't I think of that!? I'm so dense sometimes.:smallamused:
However, I still wish I knew how much it was worth.:smallconfused: In American money that is!

Actually, you would want TOP to USD. Not USD to TOP.

Yeah, but it gives the exchange rate, which would be that same either way. I couldn't find a good link in the reverse...
EDIT: NVM, I figured it out (http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=10&from=TOP&to=USD&submit=Convert)...

So... $5.38?:smallconfused:
$0.0054 actually.
Or a little more than half a penny.

...That is disappointing.
So... $5.38?:smallconfused:
Ummm. No
The Tonga Pa'anga is divided into 100 Seniti. So you have a Tongan 10 cent piece, worth about 5 cents US. You could quite probably make more selling the thing for scrap as Tonga currency is made from Copper and Nickel.

Well, the 10 is worth $5.38, one is worth $0.5386.
EDIT: *looks back* Ah...didn't notice it was the smaller coin...must've failed my spot check..what happened to my bonus?
$0.0054 actually.
Or a little more than half a penny.

It is, actually. I am rather proud of my mathematical abilities.
My ability to read "10 senti" in the opening paragraph, however, I question. :smalltongue:
