so, here's the situation, the party (Gestalt level 3, a Knight/favoured soul, a fighter /swordsage and a monk/sorceress) are currently passing tests to enter the venice secret service (long story). They barely passed the trap test, failed the diplomacy test (they had to tell a dwarf he was wrong without him flipping out) and aced the melee test (they downed 3 ogres in 3 rounds.... pretty amazing). Now, the agency wants to know jow they fare against spellcasters. I already told them they would face 2 wizards, a conjurer and an illusionist. I'm just not sure what spells and levels to use, I want to challenge them, they need to have to be smart about it to win, but I dont want to crush them either. So, any suggestions?

Invisibility, Minor Image (Illusionist), and Summon Monster (Conjourer). Add buffs for good measure. Basically, have the Illusionist make them both invisible, while making a Minor Image of them still being there (three 2nd level spells - doable for a 3rd level specialist wizard with the elite array) while the Conjourer (With Spell Focus(Conjouration) and Augment Summoning, of course) uses Summon Monster for disposable minions.

Depending on how difficult you want the fight to be, you start them unbuffed in plain sight (easy version), or on opposite sides of a curtain and the match starts when the curtain is withdrawn... at which point, the Wizards have already cast both Invisibility (twice), Mirror Image, and Summon Monster II three times.

I suggest that the Conjurer opens up with Grease and Obscuring mist. Illusionist can open up with Color Spray on them to knock them out. Either one can shatter melee weapons (this will seriously make your players mad) and do stuff like that. Basically, just tie them down. Maybe you should try to make it a timed battle or something like that, so they have to grapple the 2 wizards in 1 minute and the wizards cast delaying spells to try and stop them.
