View Full Version : Humiliating Beatdowns

SAMAS
2008-02-08, 11:00 PM
I figured for my first thread, I'd try something a little different: Name some matches that would end in a humiliating defeat for the loser.

Wait, wait, hold on a second. Now I don't mean "Humiliating" as in "Utter Curbstomp", although it can include that.

By "Humiliating", I mean that, in the sense that, if the loser were to wake up afterwards, their first reaction would be: "I got beat by WHAT!?!"

I mean something like: A Battletech Mechwarrior (or any mecha pilot, really), getting on the receiving end of this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YpbIO9Q17lY)

Are all attacks in Super Robot Wars so long?

And I think that any "Care Bears vs X" fights would count. Because Care Bears were proven on these boards to be impossible to beat, and really - how can you have any dignity left after getting your ass handled by them?

Also, in Guilty Gear, if you fight May or Bridget you are already on a lost position no matter of the outcome - if you win, you are cruel for beating up a kid, if you lose, you lost to a kid.

Are all attacks in Super Robot Wars so long?

Only the really big ones. And it depends. The Twin Bird Strike (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oFwlTQUJqI&NR=1), for example, is only half as long. I think the Royal Heart Breaker is the longest out of the Hero Mecha.

All ultimate techniques are about that long, but most attacks are usually pretty short.

Edit: Oh snap. Given that Ryusei's dumped Lat for Mai, I think it's safe to assume that the pair are going to be lovers now.

There was a UFC fight I saw where one of the fighters immediately hit his opponent with a jumping knee strike and knocked him right out. The fight was over in less than 10 seconds. I imagine the guy waking up half an hour later and asking when the match was going to start.

Outside the real world, well...

They made Dance Like You Want To Win a usable combo attack. That's awesome.. also, although I think the art also.. um, 'inflated' Asuka and Rei a little, there's surprisingly little bounce.

There's GBA ones you can steal. I strongly recommend J, even if Fury Tech is powerred by bounce (Not /just/ breasts, but bounce), and R. Fiona's got an adorable character design, and more importantly, Martian Successor Nadesico, Gear Fighter Dendoh, G Gundam, and the glorious cheesetasticness that is Daitarn 3. And Gai lives!

Thrawn Defeated by The Joker. I am sorry, But no matter how good a tactician, you will almost never find a way to predict what the Joker will do. It would be a fight, that either could win easily. Thrawn could catch on, but really, it would be a classic fight between to foil characters.

I'm going to nominate Squirrel Girl vs. X, for her unbreakable plot armor and the "I got beat by WHAT!?!?" factor that comes from being defeated by someone who's power is to control a bunch of grey super-furry rodents.

It would drive anyone nuts! *dodges thrown acorns*

Is there a mecha they do not have in those games?

Oh, yes, several. It gets harder to find them with each new game, but there still are mech series that are too obscure for even SRW. There's also the newer series that haven't been represented yet, but those don't count because there's no way they're not going to be in an SRW as soon as possible (like every new Gundam series and Gurren Lagann.)

Hmm, do they have Canti? He is a very borderline example though, because he's barely larger than a human and can move on his own, without Naota. But who knows...

Don't lie.

And no, Canti isn't. Tekkaman Blade is something of a special place. Generally, SRWs really only use Mecha anime characters, not Toku or Metal Hero types..

Fixed. If WH40K is the total awesome concentrated for grim and gritty Sci-fi fanboys, who just have to headbang after each turn to burn energy (otherwise they'd burst into fire themselves), then THIS is WH40K's equivalent for mecha fanboys.

Now, as for beatdowns... it doesn't top Care Bears, but I still can't forget the memorable scene when, near the start of FF VI, Narche's defenders unleash a pack of wild, ferocious beasts on unconscious Terra - only to see these beasts beaten to death by little fluffly white cat-things that say "kupo". The beating included paintbrushes, boomerangs and flails. Oh, and impaling on spears.

Anyway, here's (http://youtube.com/watch?v=au-gjIC7cJo) another "destroy the heavens" SRW boss attack video.

As for truly embarrassing, I'd be embarrassed too if I got creamed by a 12-year old girls' gymnastics routine called "The Nutcracker. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=-Cl4yAd05sk)"

Getting beaten by this (http://youtube.com/watch?v=duYGLaJzYxw), on the other hand, would be embarassing for pretty much anyone. (It's a giant robot-sized mechanical girl, basically. You don't want to know why it was made.)

If beaten by that suit is not a humiliating beatdown, I don't know what is. Watch until the last part, where a team of Bonta Kun swarmed the bad guys' lair with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Squad effectivity.

Too bad it didn't show the news excerpt about SWAT team using that suit with great result.

I don't know why I forgot to post this.

There's even a more humiliating defeat, much more than defeated by ewok, bonta kun, or squirrels.

How would you feel, if your entire spacefaring, proud warrior race is challenged by a species of basically unintelligent fuzzy furball with cute cooing voice?

Yes, The Tribbles from Star Trek. If I'm not wrong, Enterprise did defeated a klingon ship by sending tribbles onto them. Really a fate worse than death.

read here for more info.

Hmm, I have heard that only these ones that have original characters only got official translations. Do you know are there any unofficial ones?

Only original characters will not matter much for me, though, because the only robot anime I've really watched was Evangelion and FMP. Yup, not even a single episode of Gundam - weird, huh?

I'll have to finish my current games anyway. More specifically, Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations and MGS2 (where I just reached the mind screw part...).

Didn't I tell you to go watch Nadesico? Come on, man.

And anyway, let me just add off-topically that R is a wonderful, wonderful game for Nadesico fanboys. You can have Nadesico characters from the very beginning, you play through the movie and most of the interesting parts of the TV show, and best of all, you prevent that horrible movie from ever happening via time travel. Hooray for Banpresto's dislike of tragedy.

For the serious Evangelion fan, though, the Alpha series (PS2) would probably intrigue you. Or if you'd like both, there's also MX (which may have gotten a portable and therefore easier to import adaptation).

Let's see, on-topic...well, I guess most villains in mecha series suffer humiliating beatdowns, since their opponents are usually children, incredibly lucky rookies, mental cases, or all three. See particularly Viral in Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann, whose defeats get gradually more humiliating over the first half of the series until Simon eventually just one-shots his mech when he tries to interrupt his fight with Lord Genome.

And I wouldn't say you prevent Akito from ever becoming emo. That's just impossible. You just prevent him from ever getting serious about it.

And The Prince of Darkness watched like bad fanfiction, but we can discuss this elsewhere.

Bridget is great for that. Last year in a science class after finals I brought my old Xbox, the first Halo, and Guilty Gear so we could goof around properly for the rest of the school year. Well there are two kinda annoying Indian dudes who I passed the controller off to after warming up on one of 'em. They make the mistake of asking me who to pick and it ends up Slayer vs. Bridget. Annoying Indian dude #1 is supremely amused by the way Bridget backs up and the "brief shot" it provides. He nudges me and goes "eh, eh". I break it to him after the fight and right before the only other guy who plays Guilty Gear walks in.

A couple of the newer ones are very SEED-heavy (Alpha 3 and J), but there's far far more that do the whole UC Zeta and Char's Counterattack thing. The more obscure ones like Turn A and Crossbone tend to show up in one game and then get given a good long rest while they go back to the classics.

Disclaimer: This post contains no giant robots.

Anybody v. Bill and Ted probably qualifies as humiliating. They win. Not just because they have unrestricted time travel, although that certainly helps, but also just because they win.

And they're kind of spastic, and not really good at much of anything, so losing to them is pretty embarassing.

To be fair, I've stalled in the middle of Cowboy Bebop, so I guess I'll finish that before harassing anyone else about their animu-watching habits. Incidentally, original Gundam is next on the list, and retelling UC Gundam with a bunch of crossovers is pretty much the point of SRW, isn't it?
