If you can move a point from each of the 17s to the 15s, you may want to do so if you want to make the most of the points early on. I'd go with Dex or Str for one of the 17s depending on your combat style (or put both 17s into Str and Dex if you want to use a Composite Bow with the archery combat style). This should be followed by Con and Int (for the skill points), followed by Str or Dex if you didn't want to use a composite bow, the 14 should go into Wis, and the 12 should go into Cha (it's only really useful for Wild Empathy).

Are you going point-buy or rolled?

And yes, because catfolk are awesome.

Did you add the stat bonuses already? Is you haven't, I'd still recommend that set-up while using a Composite Bow.

Would you prefer Archery or Two-Weapon Fighting?

in the party is a barbarian and a sorceror and a cleric. i think archery but if two handed does more damage im not sure. what do you recommend?

You get 2-weapon, not 2-handed, and that group could use either as long as the sorcerer isn't blasty. If he is, go 2-weapon, otherwise your stats are better for archery. 12 in cha, 17 dex, 17 con, 15 str, 15 wis, 14 int. You'll want to boost con with one of your level up stats, and put the rest in dex. If possible, use one of the variants that trades your companion for something similar, but don't spend a feat on it.

i don't get level up stats
all i get is the stats
17
17
15
15
14
12 and as a catfolk get +4 to dex and +2 to cha extra
so i have to choose my stats before i put in the racial bonuses

the question is do i want a 17 + 4 for racial = 21 dex and a 15 con
or a 17 con and a 19 dex?

I know, but I'm a planner. I was just including the level-ups as future advice.

And more dex is better if you go with archery. You should be avoiding getting hit anyways. So, 21 dex, 14 cha, 14 int, 15 str, 15 con, 15 wis.

what do i get for level ups other than skills?

A feat every 3rd level, +1 to an attribute every 4th level, the ranger class features, and 1d8 hp. Here (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/ranger.htm). It's easier than the PHB.

i was thinking about taking rapid shot and just using a bsword with a shield for melee. if i did choose the two weapon what two would i use?

Well, two weapon fighting is generally weak in D&D. Maybe not so weak itself, but there are problems with making some considerable use out of additional attacks.

Shields however are horrible, and completely useless with bow, beacuse you can't shoot with shield on your arm.

If you want archery, fight with some two handed weapon in meele.

Or Complete scoundrel has bow blades and crossbow bayonets you can put on your ranged weapon so you never have to switch.

I second archery. You've got a barbarian and a cleric, and if they know what they're doing they'll be all the frontline you need.

Con is less important (since you shouldn't be getting hit too much), so put your 17s into Strength and Dexterity. There aren't a lot of ways to raise your damage as a straight ranger, so strength should be second only to dex in your priorities.

Also, get a buckler and love it. No penalties for using one with a bow.

Hmmm. What are damage, crit range, ec of it? Don't have CS, can't find it on forgotten realms help.
