Rules

After most updates, there will be a question as to how our heroes should proceed, I will state this question below each comic where it applies, along with the potential paths. Questions and answers will be Italicized, to vote put the number of the answer you are voting for in bold at the end or begginning of your post. The number of options will vary. For example

Should Rob order Chinese or Pizza?
1. Chinese
2. Pizza
And to vote your post should look somthing like this.

Pizza is better
2
If there is no question at the end, that means that, due to time, I'm still working on the next part of the update.

Split up and go after each artifact independently. Then each raise four separate armies in order to take the three others for themselves, unbeknownst to the rest. Then, when they discover that the others all have armies, wage war on each other, war that will consume all the world in decades of endless battle!
Or they could just go for 1, the axe.

It appears our heroes, are stuck in a tunnel with a group of well armed dwarves on one side, and a creepy smiling gnome on the other. What should they do?
1: Fight past the gnome and run away.

Originally he was going to lose his arm, but that would have meant I needed to get it reattatched which would have cluttered things up.
Oh yes, Some explinations

Oscar was trying to hit The Gnome (You'll find out about him later) with a three-part spell, first he conjures some sand, which he then hits with fire to turn it into a ball of whirling glass blades, which he then sends flying at his target.
Also, the Kobolds were under an Invisibility-Orb type spell, The Gnome saw them somehow and Greg heard their guns clicking before they fired (which broke the spell, hence the poof).

First, A banner
http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w27/bloddyredcommie/Jackbannertitles.png (http://http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?t=72014)
Second, introducing Jack's Spellbook.
It should be noted that I am not a great homebrewer, nor is this comic run on DnD rules. Heck, I may not even stick to the rules I give here. However, occassionally when I have Jack or Oscar cast a spell I may write up the rules for it. So here you go

Jack’s Repulsor Blast
Evocation [Force]
Level: Sor/Wiz 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time:1Standard Action
Range: Long
Area: 10 ft spread
Duration: Instantaneous
Saving Throw: Reflex Negates, see text
Spell Resistance: Yes
This spell causes a blast of concussive force to emanate from a point, knocking those it touches off their feet. If a target fails their reflex save to avoid the blast, they get pushed back five feet away from the point the spell is emanating from. They must also make a Balance or Tumble check (DC 20) to avoid being knocked prone. The caster can have the spell ignore allies. If a Creature get’s knocked back into or out of a threatened area, they provoke an Attack of Opportunity.
Jack’s Spherical Shield
Abjuration
Level: Sor/Wiz 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time:1 Standard Action
Range: Medium
Duration: See Text
Saving Throw: No (harmless0
Spell Resistance: Yes
This spell conjures a magical shield to protect that caster and willing allies. The shield has 10hp/level, and loses 5 hp every round the Caster does not spend focusing (A full round action). All shields share the same Hp, so it doesn’t matter which shield was attacked. Damage to multiple shields from the same source stacks (For example, if a fireball spell hit three shielded characters for 15 damage each, the shield would take 45 damage). The caster can shield a number of characters equal to her caster level simultaneously, and can drop any of the shields as a Free Action. While shielded, a character cannot move, attack, or cast spells targeting other people.

Meanwhile, Jack and Greg blast their way through the wall.

Lyinginbedmon

2 a distraction would only make them aware that there is a threat.

Lyinginbedmon
2008-02-26, 05:30 PM
The idea of a distraction is that it draws the enemy forces to itself, leaving other areas with fewer if any men to guard. You're right about the alert though, any defences will certainly be active if they weren't already. But it could also be said that sneaking in and killing them, unless you're Solid Snake, could also alert them.

Hmm...I wonder if Jack has any more invisibility spells...

Blayze
2008-02-26, 05:55 PM
That's why the "Double diversion" plan is so great! A normal diversion will spread the enemy forces thin, but if you can DOUBLE the power of a normal one? Why, you've practically won.

Rob's got three to worry about, but he can easily hold the line there. Oscar only has two to take down. Meanwhile, Jack and Grey can nuke the three Rob's holding off in a pincer attack that will shame tacticians for centuries to come!

I knew that, I was just saying to take out that cluster of six while there was stilla chance they weren't ready for a fight. I guess that doesn't matter though, since opperation blayze won by a long shot.

Comments are appreciated.
Also, I don't know when I'll be able to make the next part, so I'll post a little random somthing about Oscar's Magic

Oscar's main magic, as is implied from his diety, is Sun-based. The crystal on his staff can actually focus light into deady beams, especially if he summons a magic lense between him and the sun. Howwever, in Granitania he dosn't have the sun to draw on, limiting his powers. Fortunetally Oscar is also knows Glass Magic, which is less a magical discipline in itself than a combination of Fire magic and summoning sand. He summons and shapes sand, then blasts it with flame to form it into magical glass.

What can I say, I aim to please.

The reason the center isn't transparent is twofold, Firstly it contains a reseviour of sand that Oscar can use to repair it, and the glow is some of the animating magic. Secondly, I couldn't get it to look right when it was transparent.
It's getting late tonight but I'll try to get to work on Part 3 of Operation Blayze tommorow. It will feature Jack, Greg, and due to popular demand, kittens.
@v: it's Magical glass. Or maybe the person who created it still gets to control it for a few seconds even if it has shattered, so though you COULD destroy it in one go with a spell, that's proably not a good idea because whoever created it can send the shards flying at you.

If the guys fall into the trap of defending the entrances, then their forces will be spread thin and if anybody ends up in trouble, then it'll take too long for any of the others to come to their aid. This is what I think should happen...

A) Oscar needs to heal Rob, and anybody else who took damage.
B) Everybody needs to get inside the room in the middle of the map.
C) The greatest barricade known to mankind needs to be constructed in the doorway of said room (Point 1 on the map).
D) Oscar and Jack need to call their most powerful summons on the other side of the barricade, at point 2.
E) Everybody who can shoot needs to stand at point 3, ready to blast any enemies who show up.
F) Everybody who can't shoot needs to stand nearby, but not block the line of sight of those who can shoot.
G) While the golem and the summon do what they can, the shooters need to pick off any enemies they see past the barricade.
H) When/If the barricade falls, the shooters need to retreat further down the room, allowing the non-shooters room to work their own magic.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v107/Blayze/Plan.jpg

Map Key:

1 - The best barricade possible, made out of everything that can be moved.
2 - Oscar's golem and Jack's greatest summon (Making full use of the Inverse Ninja Law).
3 - Everybody with a gun. Those who aren't able to shoot, or who don't have a gun, stand just behind them, ready to counter-attack any invasion.

1. Oscar and Rob summon their guys (as many summons as possible) and then hightail it to the rear entrance where the gang has set up barricades

2. Summoned monsters ignore the golems (well, try not to get hit), concentrate on taking out as many mooks as possible, hopefully getting the drop on those who are entering

3. Ranged attackers shoot survivors heading down the narrow hallway

4. Rob and the Drakes man the rear entrance

I'm with Blayze on most of the points, but have Oscar on heal alert for Jack, whilst Jack readies to open all his remaining firepower on the barricade should it go down (Meaning shoot at anyone that comes through).

However, they have a big space to funnel in reinforcements, so as quickly as the enemy targest go down they should be looted for barricading materials for to expand the area of relative safety outside the centre room.

And, A character Bio!

http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w27/bloddyredcommie/Rob.png
Rob is human; he is just a very short human. Specifically, he is what we beyond the fourth wall would refer to as a dwarf.
Rob was orphaned as a young child. However, he was picked on in the orphanage because rather than his parents being killed by raiders, pirates, tyrants, evil wizards, or one killing the other then running off (as was the fate of most of the orphan’s parents), Rob’s parents died from eating a bad batch of fish, which is not nearly as dramatic or easy to swear revenge against. While he was still young he was adopted by the Ironwind Empire and was trained to serve as a bodyguard. Upon completing his training he was given as a bodyguard to the adventuresome Duke Krisnat, who had emerged from countless perils without a scratch on him, or for that matter the bodyguard or soldiers he had encountered the peril with (but this was considered irrelevant). A week after Rob was assigned to him, the Duke took it into his head to slay a local dragon. Rob decided he wasn’t getting paid enough for that and ran for it as soon as they stepped inside the dragon’s lair. It was assumed that the last adventure of the great Duke Krisnat had also taken the life of his bodyguard.
Ever since then Rob has been working as a Mercenary-Adventurer. He encountered Jack after the Call told him to “Battle the most skilled wizard he could find”. They fought for awhile, then decided that Battle did not necessarily mean “Kill”.

Hopefully, I'll have the next comic with a question, up tonight!

I'd say it's a toss up between options 1 and 2. 1 involves going past the golems, so I'm going to vote

2

I mean, we don't want more golems being popped in do we? And the ones there could cause problems....

Building Clay golems is a lengthy process, you can't just pop them in (Glass golems are the only ones that can be built on the fly, one of the reasons they are so useful). Also, if you kill the controller the ones there stop working, so theres no point in bashing them after the controller is dead.

My theory is that either way they're going to have to go past the golems, so they can either bash them up and then kill the lone controller, or they can duck past them and handle both them and the controller.

I choose option four.

Oscar casts Golembane on the guns, allowing the Kobolds to lay down some golem-disabling covering fire while Rob and Greg smite the Dwarves and the controller.

Hmm. If Oscar's golem has been shattered, can he control the glass shards to use as weapons? If so, some form of shrapnel attack would be good round about now.

Golembane only affects melee weapons, I mean DUH, come on, I totally remembered to tell you that before.

And yes, oscar still gets a few seconds of control over the glass shards (useful information for the future), but the shards wouldn't be much good against teh clay golems.

1 because deactivated golems make the baricade even better barricades then anything else they got.

That information regarding the shards (And Golembane) has been duly noted and filed for later reference.

Does Golembane work by contact alone? If so, then Oscar would be able to cast it on the weapons the golems are using themselves.

deactivated golems make the baricade even better

Now *there's* an idea. Here goes...

Option Four - Everyone stays behind the barricade, and Oscar dispenses the Golembane. It's a narrow room, so due to the size of the golems, it would be better for our heroes if they fought in the room itself. The golems will serve as a barricade of their own while they're in the room, and if they can be used to clog up the doorway...

Ah, that all depends on one other question, though: Do Golembane strikes have the power to banish golems, or just to render them inert? Either way, staying behind the barricade in a room that can be easily defended seems to be the best bet.

Edit: We're down to four Kobolds in front of the barricade, but all that really means is that there's one gun nobody's using. One of the Kobolds (They're bound to be better at shooting guns than our heroes) needs to pick it up and keep on blasting.

If they can't handle two guns, it needs to be given to somebody who can get the most use out of it. Rob doesn't need a gun, and probably couldn't handle the fiddly stuff required with his hands encased in metal.

Jack could always use a backup weapon while he replenishes his magic, and the same goes for Oscar. Greg might not need it.

Edit: I just realised, the last two panels are in the wrong order. No wonder that conversation made no sense. :P

Woah..they are, I needs to fix that.

Alright, the low-down on Golembane ( I really should think these things through better)

Golems are physical shells animated by magic. Technically, there is nothing magical about the physical body of the golem itself except that it has been built in such a way as to accomodate the magic itself. For a metaphor, think of the golem as a bowl and the animating magics as water. While the bowl is full of water the golem is animated, when it is no longer full of water it is inert. Now, you can either damage the bowl until it is no longer capable of holding the water, or you can remove the water..Golembane is cast on a willing person, weapons they use (drain some of the animating energy out of the golem and then disperse it. Kind of like using a cup to scoop the water out of the bowl. It is therefore useful when damaging the golem until it is inert is not practical (For most golems, you need things like sledgehammers and picks to deal significant damage, knives and swords won't do). The end result is an empty shell, given time sombody could re-animate the golem with the same ritual used to animate it in the first place, but this is not practical in the heat of battle.
So lets call that an extension of option 3, everybody stays behind the barricade and lures the golems in. That said, I better fix those panels.

Option 1 with one or two kobolds and Greg instead of that slow-ass Rob. Rob can get the Golembane.

Ah, thanks for explaining a spell in a logical manner. Well, as logical as possible, anyway. At least it made sense.

Anyway, looks like it's all down to the Golembane-enchanted melee weapons here, with the remaining Kobolds (The four surviving Drakes, as well as Righty, Smokestack and No-Neck) covering the door to prevent pincer attacks (If their guns can't penetrate the golems).

Yay, The comic is fixed!

Oh yeah, from now on feel free to ask any questions concerning the setting/ way things work. I may not answer them of course, but theres not harm in asking.
Well, there is harm in asking the Cherry Pie question, which should not be asked under any circumstances.

A mixture of 3 and 1 where the shards of glass are used as shrapnel against the dwarves and the controller, then the golembane to finish off those golems if the controller isn't dead.

I really should have a comic for you guys. However, spring break just ended, so I'm still getting used to the whole school thing again. That combined with me playing Baulders Gate and a just kind of general lack of inspiration all lead to a lack of comic. I'll try to start on somthing tommorow, but my brain feels dead tonight.
