How powerful would Dhoul Magus be in the Forgotten Realms?

What if he needed to kill the Seven Sisters in order for Rhapthorne to enter? Assume that Rhapthorne is able to invade without intervention by Ao because Ao is busy at the moment.

Hard to say, really. What do we see Dhoul Magus do? Its been too long since I've played Dragon Quest.

But to kill the Seven Sisters... some of those silver-haired chicks are level 12+, aren't they? At least the Simbul (and I think the drow as well?) must be very high-level.

-Storm Silverhand: Rogue 1/Fighter 4/Sorcerer 12/Bard 8/Harper Scout 3. CR 32
-The Simbul: Sorcerer 20/Wizard 10/Archmage 2. CR 36
-Alustriel: Wizard 20/Sorcerer 2/Archmage 2. CR 28

Higher-than class level CRs are due to templates like Chosen of Mystra and other stuff. I'm not sure about the others, but I'm pretty sure they're all epic level. (They're all over 600 years old).

Then it looks like Dhoul Magus would be beaten like a redheaded stepchild if he should ever show his face in the Realms.

Dhoul Magus cursed an entire Castle, and was very very difficult to beat with Yangus, the Hero, and the others. He had a final demon form, and if the Sisters defeat him, what if they decide they want the Sceptre? Then one of the Sisters could be possessed.

Then Elminster would show up and... well... nobody wants that.

What CR is Elminster, anyway? If the Simbul is 36, he must be stronger than most demigods.

Though you're right Armin, the 'cursing an entire castle' thing is pretty impressive as well.

The Epic Level Handbook lists him as CR 39, while the FRCS lists him as CR 45.

That's the trouble with FR - there's always bigger kids in the playground.

How can an omnipotent over deity be "busy." He knows everything, sees everything, is everywhere at all times and can do whatever he wants whenever he wants. He may choose to do nothing because, you know, he doesn't really care that much, or at all, but he's never "busy."

He's hitting on The Goddess.

If the novels are to be believed (no idea on the source books) then the chosen of Mystra can fire off a bolt of silver fire - basically raw magical energy that ignores all resistances and kills very effectively. Under those circumstances, a mad jester with a magical staff would be toast.

All of the seven would use detect magic to examine any magical items he had before going and picking them up. If it came to possession, they'd all have very high saving throws.

And yet, they'd eventually roll a 1. :P

Yes. Angelo's brother resisted the staff for a little while, but when he was weakened enough, he became another person like Dhoul Magus.

Consider his alignment though - either neutral evil or chaotic evil IMO. He kept the staff because he thought it would help him take control. The seven and Elminster are all good aligned, or good enough to recognise an evil artifact of power.
