I'm playing a campain where I'm a single merc defending a daughter of a clan leader against another clan. I'm with a driver but have no one else. Both the daughter and driver are civilians and don't have fighting experience. Any race will do as long as you could give me the racial stats. LA has to be +3 or lower

Keep it simple. Just be an orc (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/orc.htm).

Personally I'd go wood elf.

+2 str, +2 dex, -2 int, -2 con
elf stuff
favored class ranger.

Personally, I'd want to be versatile. The extra feat for being a Human might be worth considering.

A wood elf would be good but that -2 con is maybe not so good. Although I do get +2 str and +2 dex, that hp I get from the con is gonna hit harder because I'm the sole guard.

Sounds to me like my good buddy Ike.

For Ike-ness, go with a Human Fighter...

An Elf Ranger will probably work, too...

Maybe an ork barbarian? What level will you be at?

A half-orc makes perfect sense for mercenary muscle in both fluff and crunch. A half-elf would make a decent merc, benefiting from the skill bonuses to negociate wages and keep an eye out for trouble. Tieflings would gain from their abilities, and it would keep them out of trouble for their lineage.

A warforged is my second choice

I start out at lvl 2. Half-orc I did consider but I was thinking Bugbear. +4 str, +2 dex, +2 con, -2 wis. LA +1

Bugbears have racial HD, putting their ECL at 4. So you can't play one until level 5.

goddamn! and i had already rolled it.
i looked through the monster manual 1 and the only else thing would be a hoblegoblin or a tiefling but they have LA +!. Could I be a bugbear and just use class hd?

Changeling (Races of Eberron). Duplicate her. Your opponent now has two difficult-to-distinguish targets. Play a Bard, going for Chameleon (or taking Chameleon). You can do most (if not all) of what she can do, and more besides (which is the basic reason for taking Chameleon - you're basically alone, and it's a Jack of All Trades class).

Make sure she has something in the way of weapons and armor, and some amount of training with it - she needs to look exactly like you do; you always travel together. Get her in on the plan - if anything you don't think you can handle comes up, make sure she does a less convincing version of herself than you do - the idea being that YOU will be the one captured, while she escapes retreating from a fight too strong for her.

Also, make sure you've got something that produces smoke at whim - you want to be able to confuse the issue on who's who if they do figure it out for a time.

Wereboar, or werewolf, (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/lycanthrope.htm)
Deep Dwarf (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/dwarf.htm#Duegar)
svirneblin (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/gnome.htm#svirfneblin)
All have +3 or less Level Adjustment

...Eh?

Ike deifnitely strikes me as more of a Warblade, or maybe a Swordsage. Aether is anything but mundane.

Anyways, Warforged Warblade/Barbarians FTW.

True, but that's pretty much his only paranormal ability, besides being able to use the Ranged Sword Slash... which any sword-wielder can do... and also given that other characters end up with similar abilities (Gatrie and Titania can each be given abilities that are the components of Aether) but are no more arcane-wielding, it kinda points more towards Fighter-with-badass-homebrewed-feat.

Also, he doesn't know it, but he definitely did not take Charisma as his dump stat... he can turn nearly any named opponent (non-boss character) into an ally... and even some bosses turn into friends...

EDIT: blast... thought of it just as I hit the submit button... "Any sword-wielder" above refers Fire Emblem... unless there's some kinda Real Life technique that can shoot waves of Sword Energy at opponents...

I understand all this stuff pretty well. But where can I get the stats for a fire emblem guy?
