Try Paramore, they are a pop punk type band with a female lead, she has a real nice voice and the music is pretty good. check em out at www.fueledbyramen.com and pretty much any of the other bands on there as well, you might like em.

I pimp these guys because they're from my high school, but they're really good- The Static Jacks. They're something of an alternative rock group, and I really like them. Do an iTunes search, they've got a 4-song CD up.

well, KoRn and The Shins are always good, and Kansas is cool too. I like their song "Dust in the Wind"

I would like to refute this, do not try Paramore, they are awful incarnate.

Bands you should check out.

Beatles, Rolling Stones, Rush, Scorpions, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Kiss, Guns N' Roses, Iron Maiden, David Bowie, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Blind Guardian, Alice Cooper, The Doors, and about a million more that I'm forgetting.

Haha! I dunno I like em, almost the entire cd is 'good' its really catchy. But I see you are more of a classic rock, metal guy. I was trying to step away from the 'classics'.

Also 30 seconds to Mars, Breaking Benjamin, and Less Than Jake are some of my favorite bands. And The Bravery is pretty fantastic as well, I like the song Believe.

Its more alternative rock, I like a little bit of the electronic side to 30 Seconds to mars. Breaking Benjamin is a fantastic live band, I had a chance to check them out with Skindred and Korn.

65daysofstatic (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3rV9iPlx6U). Because post-rock is the greatest thing to ever happen to anyone ever. Or Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fca-XzzxpAY) if you absolutely have to have vocals. Or Mogwai (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tuGrEynG68). Godspeed You! Black Emperor (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV83U4CDAx4) and Do Make Say Think (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dd411muNmbg) are worth the look as well. Really, anything post-rock will do very nicely.

What Raistlin says. And add Serj Tankian, System of a Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and The Decemberists. Oh, Flogging Molly too.

I'm glad someone pointed that out. I was about to despair for the future of humanity, etc.

Then I read the suggestions that people were putting forward... :smalleek:

Edit: Out of curiousity I checked out the 65daysofstatic track posted above. It was ... alright, ish. It started strong, at least, but the breakdowns seemed redundant other than 'to make the next loud bit seem loud', and overall the piece didn't really build in any significant or interesting way. I'd also hoped that the cheese would be limited to the name, so you can imagine my disappointment at seeing the piano, not to mention that the kind of distortion used on the guitar is anathema to me. But apart from that, it was okay. Still, it was worth it just to read the following amazing comment on youtube: "i love their emotions"

Anyway, my recommendation for anyone looking for slightly more sophisticated instrumental music would be to check out bands such as the aforementioned Mogwai and Godspeed, as well as Sigor Ros and Explosions In The Sky. And The Beach Boys, obviously.

Spock's Beard!

I'm the only one hear who appears to have heard of them, check 'em out, their terrific! Look at thier Myspace page. Not their best songs, but pretty good. Snow, V, The Kindness of Strangers, and Spock's Beard rate among the best albums I've ever heard. Look them up, now.

Yeah, 65dos is a'ight. Not someone I would put as a front runner of post rock or anything like that. Pretty standard stuff, not that it's not fun or rockin', I like call backs to mathrock as much as the other guy (read: Battles (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IpGp-22t0lU)) but I always thought they were kinda like the band "This Will Destroy You." In that it's pretty standard stuff, we've heard the sounds before, but the attitude and personality touches into the music make it decent.

Some of my favorite new post rock groups (I wasn't gonna post here but I saw post rock and I wanted to add some beyond the older already well known ones, which are great, don't get me wrong. Mogwai is forever a favorite of mine): Balmorhea (I can't hype them enough, it's music I would of want to made), Caspian, Kashiwa Daisuke, Gregor Samsa, and Laura (recent album) are some off the top of my head. Check 'em out.

A couple of new folk bands I've been rather liking recently. Both heavily into English traditional stuff, which I think gets kind of overlooked sometimes.

Spiers and Boden (http://www.myspace.com/spiersandboden) - two of the guys from Bellowhead. Great stuff, really nice and bouncy in a slightly out of kilter way.

Crucible (http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=84339692) - newish four-piece from Sheffield, very into morris tunes and harmony vocals. Slightly darker and more Serious sounding than S&B with moderate levels of smallpipes abuse.

A friend of mine introduced me to Eluveitie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eluveitie) "Celtic folk metal with melodic death metal influences".
It's interesting and different, so give it a try. There's two free MP3s on the band's website (http://www.eluveitie.ch/en/?view=listen) and some more on their MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/eluveitie).
