I have many friends who are not gamers. Not yet anyway.
I am plotting to make and run a very simple system that may hold the interest of new gamers. It will likely be a few powers with "1d6+4 to hit, 1d6+8 damage" and the likes of Health Points and standard punch damage.
I may include a Hero Points system I have seen elsewhere to allow them to 'stretch' the powers.

Any ideas or suggestions?

I was also going to pregen characters, and have found the best way is to think of names and go from there. So far I have:

Willow Nihilate = Nature user
Frost Burn = Fire in one hand, Ice in the other

Any names suggestions also appreciated

The best place to get superhero names. If its hero-related, these guys know about it.

If you wanted to do it D&D, I have a couple of suggestions:
-Warlocks (Complete Divine) are blaster specialists
-Psionic Classes (Psionics Handbook) (http://www.d20srd.org/indexes/psionicRacesClassesSkillsSpells.htm), especially Psychic warriors, have a lot of abilities that mimic the typical domain of superheroes
-Just about any other class can be adapted to have the right flavor you want I'd imagine
-Rich Burlew's Champion (http://www.giantitp.com/articles/mYkD5jL8N9SAcClN3pZ.html)is designed to be a superhero.
-If you describe it as flashy, than it is.

Warlocks are from Complete Arcane.

I recommend the Classic Marvel system or a simple, comprehensive, casual superpowered game. It's free, too.
