The Rules. You! Read these! Eh!

In order to try and keep these threads from becoming unmanageable, some rules have been created, and they accent the forum rules. Please read those first, eh.

1. Spam. For the purposes of RB one word posts should be spam everywhere. Likewise, posts that are nothing but *actions like this* should also be considered spam. Quality of content trumps speed of response.
2. Ditch the "competition for control of the universe" eh. It has ceased to be funny, and often branches out into little mock battles that fall into the spam definition laid out above. We've got a PbP section for fights, and even the Town has an arena, I believe.
3. If it's already a thread, don't bring it to RB. RB has such a huge range of subject matter even restricted to the little snippets that probably don't warrant their own thread, it doesn't need legitimate thread topics cluttering it up as well, eh?
4. Stop advertising other threads in RB. Just because these new threads move at speeds more appropriate to a message board than an IM session doesn't mean you need to come over to RB and brow beat people into posting in your latest brainchild.
5. Please stop with single line posts alerting us to your current status -- as in "I'm back." This is Random Banter, not "How to stalk Random GitP forum members."
6. Do not poke, kick or bump the thread. It will move at whatever pace it wants to. Also, please refrain from Captain Obvious comments akin to "My, the thread is fast today."
7. Random Banter can only be as good, or as entertaining, as you make it. Demands to be entertained will fall on deaf ears unless you can add something more meaningful to the conversation.
8. No asking "What's the topic" or the ilk. This is *not* a conversation where you could've missed the begining, it's a forum where the current topic is nicely recorded for you. So read up a bit first.
9. Thread Creator must include the words "Random" and "Banter" as well as the thread #. Try to be concise as well.
10. Every post should contain two visible, legible complete sentences, Subject and Predicate. C'mon, make your old English teachers proud.
11. Remember, Random Banter is not your IM client. If you want to have a back and forth discussion with just one person, look in their contact information for IM details

:miko:Anyone found breaking the rules will be sent to stand in the corner and receive a very stern talking to! :miko:

Not only will you not annoy the people here, you will also help increase the popularity of the IRC chat. It's win/win/win!

At the age of 4, I thought it was a good idea to eat a large amount of sugar.
(Since sugar=good -> a lot of sugar=awesome)

So, I eat the sugar. But it was too sweet for me.
And the little genious made this thought:

Since salt is the opposite of sugar, I can wash off the taste of sugar by eating salt! ^^

I threw up.

um...yuck? :smalltongue:

OK, I am not one to talk about weird food combinations. I eat them so regularly I don't even know what's weird anymore. My lunch wasn't too bad though: sandwich with crumbled feta cheese (since I can't eat most cheeses), ham, apple, and lettuce. We were out of tomato AND mustard. So I used barbecue sauce instead. It was pretty good.

We were going to test the "is everything better fried theory" once. We had a little deep fryer and we were going to make a whole bunch of stuff, and then fry it to test. Our friend kept trying to convince us to do it, but we did not conduct the experiment due to potential mess. Mainly because none of us like to clean.

That being said though, friend twinkies are fantasmic!

Oooo. A friend of mine broke his jaw, so he had to have it locked shut so it would heal. Well because of this he had to blend his food so it would get past the mouth braces. Holy mackerel are blended cheeseburgers disgusting! Also chicken nuggets.. etc etc. He would just eat (drink?) gravy because it came in a jar and it was already liquid.

@^: I thought only men got nervous before dates. Anyways, don't worry about it.

I was just at an elementary school science fair. Now, it's a given that elementary school students aren't going to do the fanciest projects. But I couldn't help but be reminded of Ralph Wiggum ("I'm Idaho!") by this one kid there, whose project was called "Space Bully" and was about black holes. It consisted of two pieces of paper, one of which had a poorly-drawn swirl on it, the other having about five or six extremely suspect "facts" about black holes. (I think one of them was that objects shrink as they are pulled into black holes.)

Him: Black holes are created when a star collapses in on itself!

FoE: So why do stars do that?

Him: Uuuuuh ...

:smallsigh: Needless to say, I quickly moved on to see the other projects.

I'm not girly, yet I still wonder if I look fat in my jeans, or what should I do with this hair I almost never brush because I'm lazy, and it's too wavy.

If you like the other person, you get anxious about your looks.

But what else are you going to call it?
"Hey! Let's call for some Chinese-American takeout."

I was in India over the summer and spent a lot of time with Koreans (don't ask). They didn't call french fries, burgers, hot dogs, &c. American, but rather "international food".

Speaking of Indian food, no matter how many times it made me sick, the "fast food" and chai from street stalls was irresistible.

The average joe in India wears tight pants, by the way, and 99% of them have really cute bums.

Indeed, but very few people would be taken with 'real' chinese food, so we (americans) dumb it down to be more 'palatable'.

In all honesty, my stomach does not agree with most Korean food. Only cucumber kimchee (sp?).

Edit: Most Mexican food you will find in America is 'tex-mex', aside from a few restaurants in Arizona and New Mexico. It is understandable that most people from the southwest will find tex-mex inedible.

Mmm, Mexican food. When I was growing up, for a short time my family cohabitated with a family of Mexican immigrants. My mom, being the wonderful cook that she is, learned a lot from Rosa (the matriarch of the family aforementioned). Admittedly, most of what I still eat is Tex-Mex, but mom's burritos are still the best I've ever had. And even mom won't try tamales (them's a LOT of work) but I still remember that it was Rosa's tamales that made me fall in love with Mexican food to begin with.

Indeed, but very few people would be taken with 'real' chinese food, so we (americans) dumb it down to be more 'palatable'.

Wellllll...all the Americans I know who've lived in China GENERALLY like the food. What most people don't realize is that the cuisine there is just as variable by area as in any place. So in the north, the whole "eating cats and dogs" thing doesn't happen so much. They do eat "drunk shrimp" and "stinky tofu" but other than that it's pretty good. Oh, and no soy sauce where I was, either - I went 5 months without seeing a single bottle. :smallwink:

So, what do you call American food?

(By American I don't mean the whole continent, just USA)

Umm...that's the problem...there's not really any genuinely American food. Besides hamburgers and pizza...? Fried chicken? ...yeah. Pretty much. The classic American (home-cooked) meal is like...meat, potatoes, and vegetables. Think Thanksgiving dinner....:smalltongue:

(and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any way to refer to us but 'American'...which I kind of hate...we could be 'USA'ers but I prefer to think of us as 'Troglanders')

American food is probably BBQ, anything fried, giant steaks.

As for blood-giving...I'm pretty sure I'm one of those who wouldn't be too good for it. I've lived out of the country too much for them to take my blood anyway, so it's a moot point, but even if I were allowed to I have such a low blood pressure that I'd probably black out. I'm not scared of needles, but my body doesn't seem to listen to my brain.

Okay, rant.

So we just bought a new (to us) house and we're trying to transfer our services over to the new place. No problem for most of it, like the utilities. Same day change over, no sweat. The cable/internet/phone service that I have with the local provider (Comcast) not so much. Unlike most folks, I've had a very good experience with Comcast and I signed up for one of those bundles where you get a better rate if you promise to keep it for two years. No sweat there. Until the move. Now, true to my promise (and desires actually) I tried to move the services I have with them over to the new home. But they don't service the new area. At all. Sigh, but okay, I'll shop for other providers of the same services and see what I can get.

I have two options that don't involve shoving a dish in my roof, which I don't want and won't give me phone/internet service anyway. One is Millenium, which only has speeds that Craptastic International Junk DSL Incorporated has surpassed years ago. The other is Verizon. Okay, this is fine. I'll look into their FiOS service, that has promise and is comparably priced with cable modem service.

So I go to the website and start plugging in numbers to see if FiOS is available in the new area. The site says "We're sorry, you have to call our 800 number to process this order." Grrr. I call. After getting through their stupid menu options, that don't actually have an option for "start new service", by banging on "0" enough that they finally just put a rep on the phone with me, who asked what account I was callling about. :smallannoyed: I tell him clearly that I don't currently have ANY Verizon services and that I'd like to order all new services, many of them, from him, right now. "Oh, great! I'd love to help you out. What's the phone number at your location?" :smallmad: "Dude, I just told you I don't have one. That's why I'm calling you, from my cell phone." <this is repeated with two new phone numbers and several representatives before I finally get a very pleasant and knowledgeable woman who knows which buttons to press on her phone to help me out> So I'm chatting with her, she assures me that FiOS is available at the new house and I won't have to go with Millenium. Hooray! "Now, lets just decide which package or packages you want and I'll get the order put in for you." Great! We talk, I settle on just what I want; everything, extra cheese. Now, I just need to set up an installation date. How soon do I want it? Yesterday, please! She offers to give me the absolute earliest appointment they have available because I work midnights and I can be available any day at any time they need me to be. Great! "How's March 26th?" Excuse me? A month from today is the earliest you can give me internet and television? "I'm sorry, yes." <she explains to me why they are so backed up, it's a reasonable explanation, but doesn't help me get service at my new house any sooner. She even called the service technicians directly and asked about any earlier cancellations. No dice.

So there we have it. I have no internet at the new house for another month. Because I can't live that long without an internet connection, this means that I will be leaving my service in place at the old apartment and coming by periodically to check things like email and these very forums. For a month. :smallsigh:

I don't like giving blood because I keep hearing how bad the people are at taking it. Even with larger, more visible vains like the ones I have, it's apparantly taken several tries for the technician to get it in the right area. I get that story from my girlfriend, who mentioned it happening to her dad. I know it's not the norm, but my luck I'd have that person.

Also, I really like cargos or carpenter jeans. If it doesn't have more than 4 pockets, I probably won't wear it too often.

Jeans are more durable though, I've definetly put my fair share of holes through both to know.

Yes, parasitic, isn't it? The plasma centers are third party companies. They pay donors some piddly double-digit amount (depending on weight class,) and sell the plasma to hospitals to make clotting factors for upwards of a thousand dollars. After they pay us, and pay for supplies, then pay their own employees, I think they still make a pretty hefty profit in the end.

What the hell? Why would you wreck something like that with ketchup?

Should use hot fudge, or caramel, or warm peanut butter, or ... or.... I mean anything but ketchup!

Speaking of food, I made some really tasty pasta last night. It was a sauce made of cream, chicken breast (chopped), mushrooms (sliced), parmesan cheese and salt and pepper on a big flat pasta starting with "p" that I can't remember the name of (kinda like fettacini, but a lot bigger). I just finished the leftovers then... Mmmmm.

How's a Mars bar an energy bar? I know it's basically the same as our Milky Way...and those aren't near considered energy bars.

Well...there are some Snickers infused with ginseng, but not the point.

So, so true. I could eat those things every day and still love them.

Also, for awhile Snickers were marketed as a sort of energy bar. Something about all those peanuts giving you the energy to win the World Cup. Really that seems unnecessary to me. Their tastiness is enough to win my 85 cents. Well, as long as there are no Take 5s in the same supermarket checkout aisle, anyway.

Okay, rant.

Unlike most folks, I've had a very good experience with Comcast and I signed up for one of those bundles where you get a better rate if you promise to keep it for two years.

You've got that one right. Here in Twin Cities, Since Comcast took over for Time Warner, they've raised cable prices, and taken away channels. They're also the only option for cable in the area, and we don't want a dish, so we're stuck with one of the worst customer friendly services there are. It's situations like this where I miss Antietam Cable.

The deciding factor in cable providers is who layed the cable. There's an agreement with all cable companies that whichever company installed the cables in the area, gets exclusive rights to that area. I've discovered that once in a blue moon, you get two companies that put down stuff in the same area, and you get a choice.

Normally, the webcomic VideoGame Cats is full of rape jokes and senseless violence. But I found this strip in particular really cute, especially if you like Kirby:

I could identify about 30 of these references without looking at the legend. I think my favourite is No. 37, the 'Krug' Kirby, though the 'V' Kirby (No. 94) is pretty awesome, as is the Bowser Kirby (No. 4).
