A man-spider-monkey monster.

Here's a simple little nomad for low level chumps to beat on and get beat up by.

A howlee stands about 5 to 5˝ feet tall and weight about 150 pound. Their bodies are slender and hairy resembling a bamboo. A Howlee has two pairs of arms though the lower pair is often thinner from disuse and hidden under their clothing. Howlees have 4 feet but their constant jitteriness impairs their ability to keep all four rooted.

Combat

Howlee often attack from above via ambush. They often lead with ranged attacks then leap on their entanged and poisoned victims.

Create Poison
Howlee can produce poison from their mouth which they often apply to their weapons. They never risk accidentally poisoning themselves when applying this poison to a blade and are immune to the poisons of their relatives. The poison has a Fortitude save DC of 14 (Constitution based plus +4 racial bonus) and has an initial and secondary damage of 1d4 Strength damage. A howlee can produce 4 doses of poison a day.


Webcraft Weapons
Howlee can produce weblike fluid from under their arms. A howlee can use his lower arms to produce a folded net, a set of bolas, or 2 darts in once every 2 rounds as a free action. A howlee is proficient with weapons made this way and gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls when using them. A webcaft weapon takes 1 round to create and last 5 minutes before breaking. Once thrown, they become stuck to whatever it hits and is useless. A howlee can create 5 webcraft weapons a day.

Favored Animals
Howlee are raised around monkeys and spiders. They gain a +2 to all Charasma based checks to monkeys and monstrous spiders. Howlee can treat monstorous spiders as animals and can choose them as special paladin mounts with a +2 bonus to master level. Howlee can treat monkeys and familiars and animal companions with a +2 bonus to master level. Monkey familiar grant their master a +3 bonus on Balance checks.

Inner howl
Howlee howl often for great lengths for any given reason. The sounds of their howling echoes in the minds and ears of those nearby. Any creature who hears a howlee’s howl for at least 10 minutes grant a +5 bonus to save versus mind-affecting abilities based on sound.

Skills
Howlee have a +4 racial bonus on Balance and Climb checks and can always choose to take 10 on Climb checks, even if rushed or threatened.



Howlee As Characters

Howlee characters possess the following racial traits.

* +2 Dexterity, -2 Wisdom Howlee are flexible but often to nervous to use common sense.
* Medium size.
* A howlee’s base land and climb speed is 30 feet.
* Racial Hit Dice: A howlee begins with 2 levels of monstrous humanoid, which provide 2d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +2, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +0, Ref +3, and Will +3.
* Racial Skills: A howlee’s monstrous humanoid levels give it skill points equal to 2 × (2 + Int modifier). Its class skills are Climb, Hide, Listen, Move Silently, Search, and Spot.
* Racial Feats: A howlee’s humanoid levels give it one feats.
* Webcraft weapons 5/day (bola, dart, net,)
* Create poison 4/day
* Inner howl
* +4 racial bonus on Balance and Climb checks.
* Special Qualities: Darkvision 60 ft., scent.
* Automatic Languages: Common,. Languages: Draconic, Elven, Giant, Goblin, Gnoll, Orc.
* Favored Class: Ranger.
* Level Adjustment: +0



More on Howlee.

Howlee bands often walk through elven lands. The good natured forest howlee often join elven bands and the more vicious cavernous howlees are found in drow slave raids. Howlee rangers often have elves as favored enemies and many howlee clerics worship elven dieties. Because of their low numbers, one must need an elven contact to find a particular howlee. Occasionally a wandering bard might know a thing or two about the howlee.

Howlee live in small groups lead by a ranger, wizard, or cleric. Both male and female howlee are found in the hunting parties which hunt any available dangerous prey. Howlee are often found dining on magical beasts and large animals. Their armor is often littered with patches of the hides of rare or vicious beasts. This doesn't aid their relations with most druidic groups, so howlee druids are almost nonexistent.

Muaha, I just thought of Howler Wasps from MMIV, but we shall not speak of that :smalltongue:

They look a touch on the powerful side for a +0 LA race, but you might wanna rely on the advice of people who have been doing this longer.

You get stuck with 2 monstrous humanoid HD which are pretty much weird warrior levels. Any LA would be mean.
