In the article on the proposed revamp to the Diplomacy skill, I was a little confused by the sentence, "The base DC for any Diplomacy check is equal to the 15 + level of the highest-level character in the group that you are trying to influence + the Wisdom modifier of the character in the group with the highest Wisdom."

I can't quite parse "the 15 + level of the highest level character."

I thought maybe the "15 +" was an accidental insertion, and it was just level plus wisdom. But when I look at the example, the 5th level captain plus Wis 13 makes 18, not 21. If I add 15 + LVL + WIS I get 33, not 21. It's not "the level above 15" because no one has a level above 15.

So where does the 21 come from, please?

I like the proposal. It is realistic without being overly complicated or arbitrary.

Wisdom modifier, not wisdom score. A 13 Wis is a +1 modifier. So the captain gets 15 (base) plus 5 (level) plus 1 (Wis modifier), for a total of 21.

I fairly like this interpretation of Diplomacy. Kinda makes more "sense" this way.

Seconded.
And it kills diplomancers!
