"Hoy!" Startled, Tinn, brings up his blaster, he aims at the couch from which the hand emerged and lays down some covering fire.

I'm not sure how this works, if an area attack provided by autofire deals with cover, but here's some rolls anyways. At worst it's an intimidation factor to keep the guy from getting off a good shot.

Bracing the blaster rifle and autofiring centered on the couch. (2x2)

Alex and Tasst go to fire, but realize they are totally out of position based on where Tinn and Myles are shooting. Alex and Noodo do hear some strange noises from inside the Computer Room door. Sounds like grunting and counting.

Myles steps up and takes position just around the corner from the hole. Tinn opens up with his light repeating blaster, puncturing the couch in numerous places and setting it on fire.

Myles hears some sort of strange grunting noise from behind the couch. He can't tell exactly what is being said, but he detects fear in the voice.

Tinn opens up with his repeater on the flaming couch, providing cover for Myles to slip in and around to take out the Gamorrean Officer hiding behind the couch. When the beast is dead, Myles nods to the other and does a quick sweep of the room and finds a technician hiding halfway under one of the other couches.

The flames on the couch grow and the recreation room is lit up fairly well. The flickering light also provides some illumination out in the hallway. Tinn and Noodo can hear voices and movement down the eastern corridor, but can't see anything/anyone.

The only light on this side of the portal is, strangely enough, coming from the air vent in the ceiling. The light is very dim and whitish in color.

No one starts shooting at them. Tinn and Daers linger at the rear of the group while Noodo waits by the opening so he can get a good look at Alex's butt as she passes through. Alex and Tinn step on through to the other side. Tinn scans the darkness for the source of the voices. The hatch on the far side of the hallway, about 40-50 meters away leads back to the antenna and the ship.

Watching the rear, the screeching stops and a little bit of light projects out from under the hatch to the computer room. It would seem that they either still have power inside the room or that someone has a fusion lantern. So far, no one has emerged from the room and only a small amount of light is visible so you guess the door is only open 1/4 meter or so.

Everyone proceeds south through the opening that was blasted into the door. Tasst, having taken rear guard glances north and sees the computer room door, nearly 100 meters away. Still nothing moves, but a little light still glows from under the door.

Meanwhile, the team continues south and Myles quickly covers the distance to the next hatchway. The hallway is empty and all the doors are sealed and powered down.

Tinn pauses and examine the airvent in the ceiling and determines it is the source of the voices. In addition he can see a bit of reflected light within the airvent which flickers and disappears, only to reappear moments later. It seems like someone in one of the nearby rooms has a fusion lantern and the light is reflecting up through the vents.

The section of hallway the team is in is similar to the previous in dimensions. It is about 50 meters long and has a blast door on each end(the northern most one you blasted through). Along each side of the hallway are two sealed hatchways. Myles is now at the far south end listening at the blast door to see if he can hear anyone in the next hallway section.

In the ceiling, spaced evenly down the hallway, are 4 air vents. The vent openings are less than 1 meter square, but big enough that someone could get in(Tasst might have trouble). The vents are in the ceiling which is about 3.5 to 4 meters high, which present a slight problem.

The sensor array is through the southern blast door about 20 more meters and on the righthand side of the hallway. When the team was on the way in, the next hallway section had a lot of activity, so it is likely to have 'people' trapped inside.

They'll be on us. Alex, you contact the Wedoota as soon as ya get a signal. I'll cover ya." Bracing his rifle, Tinn gets down on a knee and watches the door intensely.

Well, I don't think there are rules for jamming coms, but intercepting and decrypting them is a Use Computer check, so it makes sense for defeating jamming to be Use Computer as well.

By my calculations based on the Rodian Beebob Assault Shuttle's speed and the travel time, the Wedoota isn't even close to being within 200 kilometers. If I'm wrong or you want to handwave it, Alex will say something else. This post also assumes that the shuttle has a powerful enough com to send the signal to the Wedoota.
"Personal comlinks can't send a signal that far. We'll need the shuttle's com to contact the Wedoota. I can call Serrik, though."

Saluting, Tasst shoulders Ssr'ist and fires at the edges of the hole in the door, aiming to expand it's size.

After the noise from his personal arsenal dies down, he comments, "If we're going to have to wait, we need to find a defensible position, hopefully outside, where we can hold out against any retaliation. At least until our ride out arrives."

Tasst casually turns the blast door into molten slag. As he widens the opening, everyone else manages to get a good look inside. Everything still seems to be in order. A couple of his blasts were a bit too close to the existing opening, so bits of molten slag and raw blaster cannon energy spray around the room, further damaging the signal processing computers.

After a minute, the opening is easily wide enough for everyone to get through. Beyond the opening is the computer room with two dead technicians and the long tunnel which leads back to Serrik.

Alex goes first into the computer room unless told not to. If nothing has changed in the computer room apart from lack of power, she also goes first into the hallway that the squad entered through. If nothing has changed there except for the devices no longer having power, she holsters her blaster and climbs back up, taking her comlink(a video-capable model rated for 50 kilometers) out as she gets into the vents.

The computer room end of this very long room is quiet and seems undisturbed from the state it was left in, although the power is out. The two technician corpses are right where the team left them. Everything seems quiet down the tunnel. Faint banging sounds, clanking sounds, and metal screeches can be heard from back in the complex.

The team moves out down the tunnel keeping to a fast hustle to cover the 1000+ meters in an efficient manner.

At the end of the tunnel is the vertical vent which leads out to the surface. From there, Alex is able to raise Serrik on the commlink. "Covering the vent from the nearby hill. No activity in the area. Proceed to evac." Serrik links in his gun camera to show the vent exit and surrounding territory. All is clear.

Once the facility's external decorations are destroyed, Serrik moves the ship away and up toward orbit. As he reaches the upper atmosphere the Wedoota comes into view as it begins bombarding the surface.

Serrik docks with the ship and powers the ship down. The Lt Commander, Toolonoo, greets the returning commando unit and seems genuinely saddened about the loss of life. The team disembarks and has to suffer through a 45 minute debriefing session. After which, the Lt Commander orders them to get some chow and some rest. The team hits their racks for the night. They are free to wander the ship, if they desire though quite a few sections are off limits except to assigned personnel. Some obvious examples, the bridge, the CIC, the ammo lockers, the engine room, etc.

The next morning Special Ops Commander Greesh arrives at the briefing room at 0930. Everyone tenses up, unsure if they should snap to attention, when Greesh says, "As you were."

The commander moves to the end of the long table and says, "In order to devise a strategy for victory we need more intelligence on the Hutt's fleet deployments. We are sending you into one of the core military installation on their encrypted holonet backbone."

He pauses and says, "Your main objective is to download all current troop positions and all pending deployment orders. To do this, you'll need to access their high security vault... which will require a sample of the base commander's DNA."

He pauses again and says, "We're getting ahead of ourselves.... to get on the planet you'll be riding in a captured assault craft using clearance code that will expire in 270 hours. We'll be dropping out of hyperspace in 11 days in the Oort cloud of the Buluu System inside traditional Hutt Space between Toydaria and Kwenn. You've got that time to repair and upgrade that ship any way you like. I'm not even sure it'll fly at the moment."

He continues and says, "Once on the ground you'll need to gain access to the main facility and the commander to secure the DNA sample. From there, you head to the command center to access the computer. Once you have the data, get out of there and back to the Wedoota."

Before the stream of questions even starts, he says, "We've got even less information on this facility than we had on the last one. We know its there." He shrugs his shoulder and wrinkles his little Rodian snout and says, "Questions?"

Special Ops Commander Greesh looks at Alex and says, "You can keep anything you recover from fallen military personnel. You don't need a personal computer for this operation. You are just doing a data download from their computer, a couple datacards should cover it."

He accesses his own datapad for a moment and says, "The write up on the captured assault ship does not contain that information. In any case, it doesn't need to be, you won't be going to hyperspace." He starts to put his datapad away and then remembers the question about the uniforms. He taps a bit and says, "We have the uniforms from two dead Gamorreans. The uniforms do not seem to be serviceable or in fact wearable." The commander smiles at Alex and says, "Don't look like they'd fit either.. unless you put on some weight."

He flips his datapad around and show the team the image of two fat bloated dead Gamorreans covered in bloody blaster wounds.

"It was worth a shot." Alex says when denied the protable computer. When the Commander dismisses her question about the hyperdrive, she says "I realize that we won't need a hyperdrive to get there, but won't they get suspicious of a ship that isn't hyperspace capable coming in without a visible mothership? We're pushing our luck as it is using clearance codes that are about to expire." At the sight of the dead Gamorreans, she says "So much for that plan. Why do you even have that image, anyway?"

The commander says, "We do not expect it to be covert. We just don't have enough intel on this facility, or time, to really stand a chance at having a covert mission succeed."

The commander says, "There will probably be several ships in orbit, perhaps a dozen or more. With all the traffic to the facility, I don't expect they will stop and do a detailed scan of the ship after you leave. Those shuttles don't normally have a hyperdrive, so if you did arrive in one, you'd have to explain that."

The commander turns back to Tinn and says, "Now, that said, if you can pull off a covert op, that'll make the intel more valuable. We don't expect to win the war based on the intel you gather, just get it started.. to do that, we need to know where they are."

The commander says, "Yes, they can move their forces, just as we can move ours. Hypothetically, if we learn they are all in Nar Shadda, then we know we can do what we want around here for a week or so before they can get here."

The commander says, "Now for the DNA... From what I've been told its some sort of hand scanner, so you need put put some blood, skin or something with DNA on your hand and allow the device to scan."

"What if they find out we were there, but think we were doing something else? Say, if we make it look like we were trying to kill the base commander instead of like we were getting his DNA. If I come at him with my vibrodagger or take a vibroaxe off of a Gammorean and use that, his blood should get on either the blade or me. We kill him if it looks like we can, or run off if the odds look bad enough that it will look like we really just botched the killing, then get to the command center covertly, get the data, and get out of there." Alex suggests.

"Actually, we could blow it up and still stop them from realizing we have the data. Just time it so that the explosion distracts them while we escape, and with any luck they'll think that's the only reason we blew it up. And that assumes that the command center is anything like our CIC. It could be completely different. Though we might as well blow it up anyway, just to make them waste time and money fixing it."

Myles

Myles spends the days in transit working on the shuttle, repairing damage and assisting with any upgrades that can be managed. He delivers a short list of explosives to Quinn with the explanation, "Using detonite will allow us to destroy a console used to pull data from, but using larger charges will allow us to destroy the building or bunker. Taking out the Console would perhaps reveal we've stolen data, destroying the bunker might cover up our data theft under the guise of taking out the facility."

The list would indicate several blocks of detonite and timers along with two or three of the bigger explosive charges. Myles' demolition talent along with his skill in handling explosives (mechanics) should allow maximum use out of a smaller number of charges.

The next week and a half go by in a flash. Everyone heals up and prepares for the next op. Due to alignment of the weeks, everyone gets two weeks worth of pay deposited to their cred sticks(see OOC thread for actual per week values).

In the evening while everyone else relaxes, Myles hits the underground gambling circuit. Making money on a Rodian ship via gambling isn't the easiest thing in the world. He'd budgeted himself about 70 credits per day. He was on target to lose nearly everything he was willing to lose when his lucky day came. He hit a rare combo and ended up with 700 credits just from that night. By the end of the week he'd had 3 nights where he left with more than he started with. All in all, he ended up with 980 credits(after spending 695, so he is up 285 credits).

The team spend their days building and installing parts on this ship. Hopefully their proficiency at the task would inspire the commander to allow them to mod their own ship next time. Evenings were spend combing the spare parts depots and combing tech manuals so they stood a chance a building a functional shield generator and light laser cannon.

One the final day, the commander called Tinn into his office and warned him, "The ship is going to drop out of hyperspace in about an hour. Get your team and ship ready to deploy. Nice job on the shield generator, but remember, that isn't stock, so don't use it until your cover is already blown."

I can stay and guard the ship while the rest of the team moves out to accomplish the mission."

The quartermaster wouldn't issue the team an explosives beyond the 2 grenades per person, but when pressed by Myles did issue him two extra grenades and a timer which he could use to wired up a small bomb which wouldn't be as good as detonite, but was better than nothing.

Serrik hits the button to send the pre-programmed automatic response. The ships don't respond immediately, but instead keep flying towards the team. Once within a few kilometers, they send another automated response, "Accepted."

The ships fly right up and hook around the 'Rodian Ale' and then accelerate with afterburners back towards the Belt. The ships fly aggressively with the lead ship constantly swerving and weaving to keep the other ships from catching up. As the ship closes on the planet the numerous battleships in orbit become apparent. As the shuttle approaches its orbital insertion, several of the battleships scan the shuttle and surrounding space. If they don't like what they see, they don't let on.

Right in front of the shuttle, a pair of light cruisers arrive from hyperspace and Serrik is forces to go around their massive unmoving bulk. As he makes his way around the ships, one of the heavy cruisers jumps away. Another of the heavy cruisers, one of the ones that scanned the ship, launches a squadron of 8 small starfighters which enter formation headed towards the shuttle and the two light cruisers.

The descent begins okay, but after 30 seconds or so, there is a metallic screech and the shuttle shakes violently. Serrik does a slow orbit of the facility. He keeps on course descending towards the landing platform so the recon isn't too obvious.

Enemy Base :

The 4 corners of the base have short range cannon surrounded by hardened bunkers. The cannon seem configured for air defense, probably to a range of 20 km. The bunkers provide minimal protection from airborne assault, but excellent protection from ground attack.

Along the south edge of the base is a massive landing pad for those capital ships capable of landing and taking off again. In the center of the eastern half of the base is the landing field and beacon for small ships(like the one you are in). In the exact center of the base is a large ion cannon for orbital defense.

North of the Ion cannon the base power generation plant and massive communication arrays. To the south of the Ion cannon is an array of small buildings, probably barracks and other support type buildings(mess hall, recreation hall, etc). Nicer, newer looking buildings are towards the western edge while older and smaller buildings tend to be along the eastern edge.

In the western half of the base is what you would guess is the command center(based on the shape of the building, architecture, large sign out front proclaiming it 'Base Command Center', etc). The building is about half a dozen floors tall with strong, sturdy looking lines, and a few rooftop weapon emplacements(portable missile launchers, etc).

The whole base is surrounded by a 4-5 meter high security wall, breached at several points by manned gates. Inside the base, the majority of the personnel seem to walk, but a few use speeders to get around quickly.

Serrik, having had a pretty good view from the cockpit, chimes in, "I'd say about half of the individuals I saw were Gamorrean. I also saw a pair of Hutt on one of those flatbed speeders. We were too high up to see what species most of others were. I did see something big and red with wings."

Serrik looks around at the team's clothes and then his own and adds, "The uniforms don't match the ones I saw. Not even the right color. Most of theirs seems tan colored." Most of the ORC gear is a dark green/blue color.

After sitting on the platform for nearly 20 minutes an orange skinned alien with three eyes on stalks and several antenna wearing one of their standard uniforms walks out onto the platform. It begins hooking the shuttle up to base power and connecting the refueling hoses.

Its on the side of the shuttle where the entry hatch is about 4 meters aft of the hatch. There is no one else visible around for about 100 meters. Looking around there is a pair of Gamorreans walking past the landing zone about 120 meters away. There is visible a Hutt speeder sled about 180 meters away. Flying to the south above the 'residential' area is some sort of black and red winged humanoid. Its about 40 meters off the ground and nearly 250 meters from the shuttle.

There are three landing pads in this area. Your shuttle is parked on the southern most one. A similar ship is docked on the northern one and the middle one is empty. There is a small gray building equidistant from the three platforms with a large window that looks out over the platforms. No one is visible in the window at this time.

The building just north of your ship is the small grey building with the authorized personnel sign. There is another freighter on the northern pad.

Those thin double lines are 2 meter wide walkways between the three pads and the building. The building as a door on the eastern side, but also has a large window.

The southern and eastern buildings are mostly support staff looking sort of buildings(barracks, PX, gym, rec room, etc). The northern buildings are more industrial/business looking. Lots more smoke stacks, antenna arrays, etc.

The command center is well off to the west beyond the ion cannon.

Checking out the room, Myles finds another doorway which seems to lead to a refresher/shower room. On the desks, he finds lots of paperwork written in Huttese.
