Super Smash Brothers Week

Greetings, fellow forum...ers.

If you have a Wii, or are even remotely connected to the console gaming scene, you know that this Sunday is the release of Super Smash Bros Brawl (which I probably won't have, because I am lacking said Wii, but hey, I'll play it at my friend's house).

For the uninitiated, Super Smash Brothers is a series of games where lots of Nintendo characters (and a few non-Nintendo characters) fight to the death for no adequate reason. It's loads of fun. Read up about it. (http://www.smashbros.com/en_us/)

Which leads me to the week in question. If you haven't guessed it already, the theme is Super Smash Bros. Dress up your avatar as your favorite character, or assist trophy, or Pokemon or whatever. Or use this as an excuse for *insert fictional universe appearing in Brawl here* week.

Me? I'm thinking Captain Falcon. Or maybe Sonic.

Either Metaknight or Isaac, for me. See, Metaknight is totally awesome in every way, but to dress up a character as him would be heresy. So I either make a seperate Metaknight, or somehow dress up a chocobo as Isaac.

if memory serves, King Dedede is the antagonist in the Kirby series, antagonists usually want to do bad things to the protagonist. Hence, your supposed to fight the kirbies.

On the down side, there is an increased number of protagonists to fight. Good luck. ^_^

TBH I don't think it makes much difference, although I personally prefer the LoZ series compaired to the Mario games.

Yep, the Head is, I was only looking for something to get the look right so I could draw it my self, but I was in a bit of a rush so I ended up copying it, I'm probably going to do it myself today.

I want to make it myself really, give me a chance to improve my skills(which aren't that good) but thanks for the advice.

So why did the image shorten? What can I do to make the 'capsule' text more readable? And how do I get rid of that irritating white box around it? Because the max dimesions for an avatar here are 120 x 120

yours is 160 x 60 and it shrunk it down to 120 x 60
You should also save it as something that can have a transparent background, like as a .gif file

Did it as fast as i could, made the background transparent and tryed to clean it up a bit shrinking it down to 120 x 45 which is 75% exactly of the orginal size.

Pit and Meta Knight are awesome. Sonic is also really good. I haven't really played with ROB, Snake or any other of the newcomers, but I vouch for those three at least.

Toon Link is, IMO, better then regular. The biggest difference is that he is faster and better in the air then Link. Link is also stronger, but the agility makes up for it. Also, toon link's boomarang goes farther, making it useful to contain attacks, or just plain wallop someone who is throwing stuff at you.

Nearly everyone hates Olimar, but he is actually a capable character. If you have some sort of freaky super-vision and can get your Pikmin Order perfect, he is an amazing character. By the reactions of others, it seems that Pit is the new "you aren't allowed to play him anymore" character.

I play with Meta Knight all the time. I agree, he doesn't hit hard. Sending your oponents flying is hard. But once you get to master the basics, he's unstoppable.

In terms of Final Smash, yes ROB has the lamest one in the game. But in standard combat, I have found him to be far from, as you put it, the suck.

Except for the easily spammable projectile and the two moves that can reflect projectiles and other attacks. He also has a really annoying voice.

I only got the game on Saturday, so my impressions on the new characters so far:

King Dedede, Diddy Kong, Ike, and Zero Suit Samus: haven't really played with/against these guys enough to have a real opinion on them, but I never liked Marth or Roy in Melee so I don't have high hopes for Ike.

Olimar: I thought he had one of the best concepts among new characters, but the application seems somewhat lacking. I mean, he's not particularly fast or durable, and pretty much only has short-range attacks. I have a feeling he's one of those characters who is actually quite good once you get used to him.

Sonic: I was excited when I found out he was a character, but he's also lacking for me. All he seems to do is perform spin attacks, and from Youtube videos I've seen his attacks seem fairly easy to dodge.

Lucas: I've never liked playing with Ness, and since he's a clone of Ness I'm not going to like playing with him.

Wario: full of suck. Stupd attacks, stupid final smash, doesn't seem particularly effective.

Pit and Meta Knight: I've enjoyed these both so far. I didn't realize Pit was an uber-character, and I don't think Meta Knight is bad like so many others. Also I do hate his recovery - I can't aim the damn thing properly.

Pokemon Trainer: He's actually my favourite of the new characters. I thought the concept was interesting, and I actually like the execution. He's got a lot of variety, and can adapt to your situation. Trying to chase down Fox? Use Squirtle. Duking it out with Bowser? Switch to Charizard. Need some versatility? Use Venusaur, which is my favourite of the three Pokemon. Venusaur has a good mix of speed and toughness and variety of attacks. He's also cheap - stand under an opponent and keep using his B attack and pretty soon your opponent's percentage is through the roof.

I think that's all the new characters I have for now. Like I said, I only got the game a few days ago, so these are only first impressions. They'll likely change in time.

I can tell we're completely different players. You think Ike's the only heavy hitter who's worth while? I prefer the heavy hitters. At least, I don't like the agile characters. When I play Pokemon Trainer, half the time I'll skip Squirtle. Kirby, Fox, Mr. Game & Watch - I just can't get used to them. I don't like weak smash attacks or getting tossed around easily. It's the same reason I didn't like Young Link in Melee, even though Link is my favourite and best character. I like Link for the good melee attack power and average speed/durability (although he's definitely now on the slow side of average in Brawl).

Anyway, as suspected, I've already changed my opinions on several characters. Sonic already seems more effective to me, and wow can he run fast. I mean, that's to be expected, but I was still shocked the first time I used him to just run across Eldin Bridge.

Lucas: I kinda like him now, mostly because I like his A attacks more than Ness's. I can actually see myself using him more in the future.

Ike: Still haven't used him enough for a definitive opinion, but I think I might like him more than Marth.

Olimar: He still seems a bit on the weak side, but am I getting a bit more used to him.

Wario: I don't see myself ever getting good with him, because I just don't like his flavour. He's just a stupid, stupid character in my books.

And now my opinion on new characters I've unlocked since my last post:

Their B attacks charge the same way. That is the only way they are similar. Unless you have spent far too much time doing calculations (in which case you probably aren't talking to anyone), Lucario is always weaker or stronger. He's a small bit faster. His attacks are even slower, and he has a useful down B. God I miss teleport.


I also don't like that it's Lucario in the game instead of Mewtwo, but that's mostly because I was a huge fan of the original Pokemon game and haven't given a damn since :smallsmile:

And Wario may be stupid, but he's fun to play. He moves like an organic Game and Watch, and can strip a platform of items in a single bite. The motorcycle may be useless, but it's enjoyable to use (and eat).

Wow, I guess I really never played Mewtwo and haven't played Lucario enough if I thought they were more or less similar. Oh well, I doubt I'll play Lucario a lot anyway.

You've definitely piqued my interest about Wario, though. I too like the motorcycle (about the only move of his I like), but I did not know that you could eat it. Or items. When you say strip a platform in a single bite, do you mean only a small floating platform, or a larger one? (I still think Wario's stupid as hell.)

On a completely unrelated note: has anyone else experienced a glitch with the Nunchuck where all A attacks are made up, no matter which direction you're tilting the control stick? The glitch is permanently on, and it's really annoying only being able to attack upwards with A. I've restarted the Wii, changed Nunchucks, changed Wiimotes, and it just won't go away. I've started playing with the Gamecube controller again.
