What do you think will happen in the OOTSiverse when 4th edition comes out? The first comic was a transition to 3.5, and there are more than a few references to events that happened a long time ago being in first edition, so it'd certainly be consistent with the world. However, I think I remember the Giant stating somewhere that he has had the ending planned out for quite awhile, so he probably wasn't planning on a new edition.

My guess is that one of two things will happen- It'll be played off casually, and characters will just make occasional jokes as their world rearranges itself in a series of *pop*s. The other possibility is that the change will be worked into the story, and reality-shattering actions will warp the space-time fabric. This is quite plausible, as we already have the snarl trying to claw its way out of the universe it's trapped in. Perhaps it partly succeeds, and when the gods restore the world, several things are completely changed.

Of course, the Giant could just choose to ignore it altogether, but it would seem quite a waste to not make fun of an entire edition worth of new rules and mechanics.

Though some mention might be there, I doubt that OOtsters convert or anything to 4.0 since I recall reading somewhere that Rich has regretted to start the comic with such a joke. Also, there's been some debate on this matter already.
Don' know where however, it's out there.

Nothing as by the time the 4e rules are analysed enough for jokes, OotS will have reached it's natural conclusion. A conversion is completely out of the question as WotC have changed the game for too much for character conversion, no conversion rules will exist and the Bard class is not present.

:smallfrown: Ah, sorry - I didn't know about those. I did look back, but I guess I should've done so farther or more carefully.

As noted, we definitely will not have a conversion until 09. By the time we might have one, it may well be too late to bother.

Now what we might get is a strip dealing with some of the differences, or the random joke, say where a wounded member of the party wishes he could do a healing surge.

But this is a 3.5 strip and it is likely better to start a new comic for 4.0 jokes.

No comic will replace Oots! That's blasphemy!

Indeed. He says that in the FAQ.

I think Elan or perhaps Belkar will complain about not updating to 4E. I don't think Rich has played enough (any?) of 4th Edition to start making jokes about it, and besides, we would probably not understand them anyway, since we haven't played either.

I think Oots will not convert. Maybe make one or two jokes about it, but not before the rules are known, if the jokes are rule specific, for more than a month.

...

3 days after the books are released?

Never underestimate people ability to complain about what they believe to be broken, within less that a week we all be hearing about 4ed "issues".

The complaints have already started, but we still need time to have the knowledge of the game seep down to the general players, and a fair amount of it will only develop in play. So we are talking months, and likely a year.
