If i where creating a level 1 Ranger, would i simply roll a d8 for my hitpoints or do level one characters get some other number (x) plus d8 or what? Im new to this and my sole resource*, d20srd.org, is aparently designed to tell you all you need but how to create a character itself.

*technicaly not true, since i have Forgotten Realms book too, but it doesnt do me much good without a players handbook and a monster manual.

usually you get max hit points plus your constitution bonus at 1st level. but you don't get that if you're multi-classing, then you roll. so say i was a 1st level rogue, and i took a level in fighter when i level up. I'd roll 1d10 and add my con bonus.

Unless your DM houserules otherwise, you get the maximum possible HP for a member of your class for your first character level, but for your first level in a given class, you do not necessarily receive maximum HP. The second rule mostly pertains to multi-classing.

Edit: ninja'd!

And also, could anyone tell me how i modify my AC to determine touch and flat-footed values?

Touch AC is everything except for shield, armor, and natural armor bonuses. See: SRD:Combat:Combat Statistics:Armor Class:Touch Attacks (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/combat.html#touch-attacks)

Flat-footed is everything except your Dexterity and Dodge bonuses. Note that if you have a Dexterity penalty that still applies, even when flat-footed. See: SRD:Abilities and Conditions:Flat-footed (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/abilitiesAndConditions.html#flat-footed) and SRD:Combat:Combat Statistics:Armor Class:Dodge Bonuses (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/combat.html#dodge-bonuses)

(Yeah, there should be a description of flat-footed under the basic AC descriptions. But it's not.)

your touch AC is your AC with out armor added in. Flat footed is your AC with out your dex bonus or any dodge bonus like the dodge feat or the dwarven dodge bonus VS giants.

example halfling fighter: Base 10 pluss, size small (+1), with a dex of 16 (+3), studded leather armor (+3), and the dodge feat (+1)

Normal AC = 18

Touch AC = 15

Flat footed AC = 14

I know mony can be tight but I highly recomend getting the players handbook 3.5. Get a used one off of Amazon or get a borders rewards card sign up for there news letter and use a printable cupon for one book and buy the BHB there. they can be any whare from 20 to 30%. No I dont work for borders I just buy alot of books.
