Combat Mission

Well, I have always been a tabletop war gamer, and someone told me this comp game was like playing a war game on your comp. Has anyone played this, and if so, does anyone recommend it?

Combat Mission:Africa Korps is perhaps the finest WWII tactial simulation ever made. I wholeheartedly support it. I have CM:Beyond Overlord (first made), CM:Barborossa to Berlin (2nd made) and CM:Africa Korps (3rd made).

All are wonderful games with CM:AK the final iteration.

They do have a modern game out as well Combat Mission: Shock Force. It had a few problems as launch but the continued patches, game updates and support have cleared those up.

I do minor beta testing for CM:SF and can tell you first hand the level of detail and reality that goes into the game. Many of us testers are in the military and most of the Army and Marines that test have also been to Iraq so understand first hand the results and effects that Battlefront is trying to model.

Bottom line is if you tabletop, played ASL, pulled out the 1:300 Microarmor sets then these games are for you.
